  1. DeSales coach reached out to him after learning that his son (Jayden) was going to attend DeSales. I'm sure any HC would have done the same. Coach Scroggins will have a lot more free time to spend with all 3 of his kids. I've heard the 7th graded is better than the twins. Holy Cross which is not far from DeSales is where his daughter (Jordan) is going to school. Coach has already been seen at events for Holy Cross and DeSales has both kids have started participating in summer workouts.

  2. This kind of mass exodus of coaches is the same as I have seen of AD's (me included) Administration doesn't understand the accountability & liability that goes into these jobs. Teaching from 8-3, then AD from 3-whenever every single night while most admin are resting comfortably on the couch many of those nights. Countless times I would leave school after dismissal for 20-30 minutes to grab something to eat & come straight back to get everything set up for the nights game meanwhile admin would walk in just before the game & leave before it was over.

Doing all of this while teaching a full load of classes make it a lose/lose situation. Hard to stay afloat in the classroom with all of the demands of curriculum & grading, department meetings, SLC meetings, etc..... (and the job that keeps a roof over your head & your family fed) to the AD/coaching job that at the end of it all might keep gas in your truck.

I get it that it was what I chose to do, but the sad reality is that many admin are so blind to how much work goes into an athletic department that dedicated people just throw in the towel and give up.

J_Utah; You must have not been an AD in Jefferson County. No AD teaches. I thought that was one of the first things Jerry Wyman took care of when he became the AD of the District.

  3. Gotta wonder if these guys keeping their teaching jobs get over staffed in the process of hiring replacements...

There have been times in the past where a new coach can be hired and because they're a head coach of a varsity sport another teacher will get pushed out to make room for the incoming coach/teacher.

Overstaffed is a word all Principals will throw out there. JCTA says that the lowest seniority person is the first to go when a Principal wants to start over staffing. So coaches that have been in the system for sometime should be safe. I know Coach Scroggins told his staff that the Principal of Central said he could be overstaffed.

  4. Coaches do coach to help young players develop their skills and mode young males. However, in JCPS case they are not being paid fairly. Coach J has spoke the truth, every post he has posted is 100% correct. $7400 before taxes for entire season (including playoffs) is a disgrace to all coaches. Besides JCPS coaches, who would work over-time for free? Coach Scroggins said in the paper he has worked 40 plus games (45, I looked it up) for free. That would be 4.5 years which is a grand total of $33,480. Why not pay them a percentage of their salary for every round in the playoffs? Or better yet, like one post mentioned $100 per round.

  5. I'm a huge fan of the Championships being at WKU, however, it has changed over the last two years with WKU being in the CUSA Championship. That change is not good for the teams that have worked their tails off to get there. Dressing rooms across the street and in batting cages is not what you would expect a Championship atmosphere would be like. Central's half time meeting place was in the hallway of the complex. Security would not even let a kid use the rest-room in WKU locker-room. Coach Scroggins took care of it, but as mad as he was at the half I would have let him by as well.

Is WKU still the best place for the Championship? Yes, if WKU does not host a conference championship.

  6. I certainly think that as long as Scroggins is in place...Central will always be in the mix for a championship. He can flat coach. That being said....I believe he's looking to make a move.

Sad to say, I've heard that too. His son is one of the better QB's in Louisville as an 8th grader. Question, why would he not bring him to Central? He happens to be one heck of a baseball player as well.

Central will be fine come playoff time. They are starting 7 sophomores, 7 juniors, and 8 seniors this year. Of the 22, 4 of them played last year. Give them time and Central will be Central again.

  7. They hit the lottery when they hired Rains, word on the street is that parents had a petition to get him removed as coach. Unfortunately that school has a history of parents overstepping their bounds & creating enough friction that coaches have just given up over there.

Lucas did a great job @ Station in regards to wins/losses compared to what had occurred @ that school since John Nochta stepped down as head coach to become Principal at Henry Clay. That being said, he left the program in financial turmoil & a lot of brand new uniforms & equipment went unaccounted for after he stepped down causing the school to have to replace a lot before the next season.(not saying he took them, they were basically given away) I've also heard that Manual received a large shipment of cleats that were an unapproved order from him as well & the AD is trying to unload them. (heard this from an AD I spoke to, can anyone from Manual can chime in on this to verify)

Dunbar collects football coaches over there; Hensley retired from there after last school year after stepping down after 2008, Howell, Thomas & Rains are all still there currently.

Lucas has some family ties to Central Kentucky if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure the shoes were donated from the Big University next door. They are red/black adidas cleats. I know UL donates a lot of their stuff to them.

  8. Just talked with one of the assistant coaches, they had a meeting last night and Scroggins told them he was still the HC at Central. His oldest kids are in the 7th grade, so after next season he is going to see where they are going to attended high school. They both play travel baseball and softball.

  9. Originally Wednesday's forecast called for Thunderstorms. Not sure what happened there. Central's field will still be awful. I believe Central does not have a practice field, so the game field is used everyday (someone correct me if I am wrong). Having watched the Western Hills game from last week, there isn't much, if any grass between the hashes.

False statement 85_Rebel. They have a regulation football field in-which they practice on. They only play games at the stadium. Just so happens; so does soccer, jv/freshmen football, and youth league. This google map shows two fields.

  10. Today is Tues. 3days before the game with no more rain in sight. Why are we talking sloppy field? Looks like a great matchup. We can try and figure out the winner from every angle. It all comes down to making your breaks and keeping turnovers to a minimum. Both teams are very good.

Dry field changes a lot of things. Can not wait till Friday.
