George Rogers Clark 55 Montgomery County 38

Featured Replies

This game could have been a lot different. MC had 4-5 shots rattle in and out early in the game. They choose to lay off of Van Cleeve, much like they did last year leaving J Daneils and Van Cleeve stepped up and hit those shots. Had he not hit those, who knows. IMO he was the difference maker in tonights game. Montgomery started to chip away at the lead and I thought there for a while when Fatkins starting rolling, he traveled about 5-6 times on his post moves prior to putting a dribble down. Coach Wise frantically tried to get the officials to call it, which they finally did at a time when the game was out of reach. I thought at times the MC press game Clark some issues.

However, as a basketball fan I loved watching Clark play, they play with such attitude and intensity on the defensive end of the floor and they share the ball so well on offense. Good group to have.

Vancleeve or Howard? Howard was left open all night and had 19 points. GRC's defense set the tone of the game from the very begining. Our offense then feeds off the defense. These kids are such fun to watch, dosn't matter who scores , as long as they win. Another solid game by Fatkin, he has given other teams problems all year.

Dominant win for the GRC Cards.

Howard had a great game, but I thought Van Cleeve stepping up and knocking down those 3's was a huge difference.

Clark beats Montgomery County for seventh straight district title

The Cards (27-5) couldn't miss in the first half and led 28-8 at the break. The Indians (22-10) had a hard time finding the rim and managed just three field goals in the first two quarters and tallied just three points in the second quarter.

Clark seniors Taylor Howard and Dominic VanCleve had a big hand in the Cards' impressive showing in the first eight minutes. Howard scored seven points and VanCleve drained two 3-pointers to close out the first frame. VanCleve and Howard paced the Cards with nine points each in the first half.

Howard added 10 more points in the second half and finished with 19 points.

“He had a phenomenal night,” Humphrey said. “He’s so aggressive at the right time and hitting shots. He defended his tail-end off and rebounded outstanding. It was just an incredible night for a kid with zero postseason experience.”

Adam Fatkin tied Howard for team-high scoring honors with 19 points and had a double-double with 11 rebounds. VanCleve rounded out three Clark starters in double figures with 10 points.

Howard said the win was “special” and gives the Cards added confidence going into the next week’s regional tournament.

“We’ve prepped for this all week, but (winning) the region is what we want,” Howard said.

Both were knocking down 3's.

Congrats to the Cards. Now it's time for what the season prepares you for, win or go home. To quote our old coach, "It's all practice for March".

Montgomery County got smaked the whole game. Clarks to strong for them. I see Clark winnning regions.

Congrats to Coach Humphrey and the Cards and good luck next week!

Both were knocking down 3's.

Yes they were, but the point I was trying to make is that Van Cleeves 3's IMO were more of a surprise and more of a lift. He is not known for being a shooter. Much like last year when Montgomery backed off of Daniels and he hit those 3 threes in the first half, I thought that Van Cleeves threes were much like that situation.

OK see where you are coming from.....but.... Not a suprise to us GRC fans. We know he can shoot. He has made several key 3's during the season. Was leading scorer with 16 in the Bourbon Co district game. From the article on the Bourbon game:

Dominic VanCleve tallied 10 points and led the Cards with 13 points in the first half.

VanCleve popped a 3-pointer in the third quarter and finished with 16 points to lead three Clark players in double figures.

Alot of teams are keying in on Bopper and leaving Vancleeve and/or Howard open. This team dosn't care who scores, as long as they win.
