Ryle 63 Notre Dame 53 (OT)

Recommended Posts

Game of runs more than normal it seemed. Ryle got off to a quick 8-0 start in the first 2-3 minutes and then must have gone 10 minutes without a FG as ND went up 17-9. Ryle closed to 19-17 at the half. Then, more woeful shooting by the Lady Raiders out of the break and ND took a 31-21 lead near the end of the 3rd. After the Pandas led something like 33-25, the Lady Raiders played amazing ball for 4-5 straight minutes on perhaps a 17-0 run to go up 42-33 with 3-4 minutes left. Then, stall ball almost cost them the game as ND caught fire, Ryle turned it over like a bakery and Voskuhl hit a tough 3 to tie it up with 13 ticks left. Ryle turned it over again and the Pandas missed a couple of contested shots near the buzzer. In OT, it was back and forth until a foul and subsequent T was called on the Panda coach, with maybe 90 seconds to play. Ryle hit all 4 FT's and stretched out the margin in the final minute or so. I had to laugh about the size disparity of the refs. You have two giant refs, probably 6'6" and then this little guy, maybe 5'5", that reminded me of Anthony Munoz and the little guy on the Furniture Fair commercials. ND played much more consistently during the game and I feel like Ryle only played well for 4-5 minutes but it was enough to get the win. Interesting game but some very sloppy stretches. Lots of tough-nosed play by both teams. Congrats to the Lady Raiders on the W.

What was up with the T? That was the ball game right there.

All I know is it was called on the bench. The ref gave a warning to the coach earlier in the game that a T would be coming if players continued to talk. Not a good time for a T for sure.

Notre Dame played some extreme half court defense on Ryle tonight. Ryle stayed patient and hit some key shots late in the game to pull it out. Nothing came easy for either side in this contest.

Congrats to Ryle on the win, I look forward to a rematch.
