Tough Mudder

Featured Replies

Where are these trails in respect to the reception hall / softball field. I didn't know they had mountain bike trails back there. I'm going to have to give it a try.

I've been running 6-8 miles once a week. Going to do the 6-8 twice a week when this event gets a little closer. I can do 7 miles in about an hour, I want to be able to do 8 in an hour. Other than that I'm doing the Insanity workouts with some weight training on occasion. Right now, I'm trying to focus on doing chin-ups and pull-ups. I want to be able to do at least 20 in a row. I used to be able to do 37 in a row about 6 years ago when I worked for the Forest Service. Right now I'm at 12 reps and I do 10 reps in between intervals of Insanity Power and Resistance and also Plyo.

They are in the woods starting behind the softball field, the ampitheater, but behind the musuem is probably the easiest access and then you can run right and left.

From everything that I've read, your endurance is fine here. One magazine said that 8 is great, but 10 miles is ideal...as it is you are probably light years ahead of many of the people running this race.

I signed up for a Warrior Dash in Kentucky. After thinking about it I will probably skip the Tough Mudder mainly due to the fact that it might be cold in October and I don't do wet and cold...

When and where is the Warrior Dash?
Elizabethtown, June 23rd.
I might have to give this one a look.

My wife and I ran 3 miles of trails and 2.25 on the road. It was brutal this morning w all of the mud, flurries, and cold air. I am tired right now, but couldn't imagine running in this for the first time there.

There is also a race called Muddy Buddy held in 8 locations across the country, the closest being Nashville on June 23. I plan on doing that one (6-7 miles of running/biking with obstacles), the Mud Stash at Perfect North Slopes (Lawrenceburg, IN) on May 19th, and one of the Warrior Dashes - either 6/3 in Logan, OH (hour SW Columbus,; 8/11 in Crawfordville, IN (45 min. W Indy), or 9/22 in Antioch, TN (just S of Nashville). If those go well, I might try the Tough Mudder in Maysville on October 20-21 weekend or in Florida in December. Know some guys that have done this before and besides being in solid shape, you apparently need to be able to deal with some brutal cold (especially for some place like Cleveland in April).

It was funny watching my wife scramble up a hill. We went off the path and climbed a pretty steep hill, like bear crawl climb. That was a good test of strength.

Finished the 10k in Charleston in 59 minutes. Not great, but I had some serious stomach issues going on due to a few beers the night before. Less than two weeks until the Tough Mudder. I'm not sure that I'm ready, but we'll see. Still doing a lot of running and extended strength circuits. I'm up to 10 pullups consecutively, which was a pipe dream for me a few weeks ago.

Hope all goes well this weekend for you mexitucky. Let us know how it was. I'm sure it will be an incredible experience.

When are you headed up that way? And what day are you doing it on? Sat or Sun? Looks like the temperatures won't be too bad this weekend. 68 on Saturday and 69 on Sunday with a possible t-storm on both days.

Good luck and safe travels.

I'm in trouble. I ran 6.5 on Monday and felt like garbage.

We're doing the Saturday one and have the 8am wave, so we have to be there at 6am. I'm sure that it will be about 50 when we start, which is a great temperature, I think. I'll let you know how it goes. My only real concern are the kinky tunnels and the pipes filled w/ water. I'm not a fine of confined spaces like that.

Our team name is "Dirty Minds/Filty Bodies" Look for me on the lowlights getting knocked out by the electricity.

Good luck. How are you feeling?

I'm feeling ok. I don't really know what to expect outside of what I've seen on Youtube. I'm up to about 12 pullups, which gives me confidence w/ the ropes and walls. Oddly, my main concern is turning an ankle on something stupid. That would be an awful way to go out.

It's over. If you have any questions let me know. If you go on the Facebook page, I made a couple of photos for Saturdays race. They are the top of the half pipe helping people up. I got a close up helping some guy in a tuxedo t-shirt up. I'm on the left w/ black sleeves.
