Voice, not trying to diminish Beechwoods hoops program in any way. But nobody talks about Beechwood basketball when Beechwood athletics is brought up. Football is KING (second best in the area next to Highlands), then comes baseball. And by the way, all those Basketball wins has produced 2 regional appearences, '05 & '09, both losses.

 

But you said they "sold their sports soul for another sport". Yes, the accomplishments in football overshadow the other sports. But it absolutely wrong to insinuate that the school does not support the other sports or in any way neglects those other sports. As a small school it is highly unlikely that basketball or baseball can achieve the same region and state level results as football, but both those programs have achieved great success and the school is 100% supportive of their efforts. And by the way, I think 2 regional appearances in the last few years by a 1A school in arguably the toughest district in the region is pretty darn good.

They were only 14-12 last year. If this team was in D3 they would have about 8+\- more cupcake wins and not be that far from where they were last year, at least in terms of record. They have also played a tougher non- dist/non-conf schedule.

 

They definitely miss Fangman, without him they have no scorer. None of their guards are good enough ball handlers to create shots. So when they have an off shooting night teams pack it inside and they have an awful time scoring at all. The guards also kill them against the press.

 

Also, while it may be true that only 3 of their 12 play football all three of those guys are in the top 7 and they also lost another football guy from last years team that would have contributed had he not decided to play only football this year (name eluding me).

 

Overall, they are certainly down from last year but not as much as the record would indicate. D3 can hide a lot of sins.

Since 2005, who are the winningest teams in Region 9?

 

Obviously, Holmes is number one by a wide margin. Number two should be rather obvious as well, Boone County. Just 2 wins behind Boone is Covington Catholic. And who is next? Well, lo and behold, it is those supposedly football focused Beechwood Tigers, just 7 wins behind Boone and 5 wins behind CCH. That's right. More wins than Newport Central Catholic. Twenty-four more wins than Holy Cross. Twenty-five more wins than Dixie Heights. Sure there are differences in schedule that helped Beechwood get so high on the wins list. But let's not be delusional and ignore the success Beechwood has experienced in basketball the past 6 or 7 years. They have been a very good basketball program. So don't try to say football gets in the way of success in basketball. It just isn't true.

 

When anyone looks at that record of success, 5 wins this year should be very disappointing.

 

This is another reason why this is such a big win for Bellevue.

I was not trying to insinuate the school doesn't support hoops, that would be crazy. IMO the school is BEST known for football and kids that are considering high schools to attend if they are basketballers probably look elsewhere (Dixie, CovCath), just my opinion.

 

The second bolded, I would agree 100%. Without a doubt the toughest district in the region.
