Sorry, but the 5th region is not as "rugged as it gets" in KY. It is a relatively weak region, with a few good teams. Bardstown and John Hardin are probably the two best overall teams. North Hardin, now that all of their suspended players have returned, is a good team. Etown is another good team. All the rest are a notch below. Whoever wins the 5th is not really a contender for the state title.

 

The point was not the overall strength of the region, but the nature of how the teams play. The comment about "rugged" meant the teams play a physical brand of basketball.

North lost 5 players early in the season for a "major rules violation" and that's all I'll say about that. They were out for 9 weeks. They are back now and the team is winning again. They lost something like 14 of 15 without them.

I didn't mean rugged in terms of the quality of play, but in terms of the physicality. You have to have an arm lopped off to get a foul called in the 5th Region.

The 5th Region is as rugged as it gets in Kentucky, so physical play is everyday life in this area. Bardstown, as defending champ, is the favorite, but Bethlehem definitely has more than a puncher's chance. Whoever emerges from the 17th District (E'town, North Hardin, John Hardin) are also dangerous. I don't really see anybody else in the 5th capable of winning the region.

I don't need to know the details of the suspension. I just wanted to know when they were suspended and how long they were out so I could see how the scores varied in correlation. Trying to pick my regional winners and I didn't know that about North Hardin.

They've won six straight since those guys came back. Their chances are good. It will be interesting to see how Friday's Bardstown@NH game plays out.
