COVINGTON CATHOLIC (11-4) vs. COLERAIN (4-5)

 

CovCath has gotten off to an 11-4 start under new coach Scott Ruthsatz, and his son has played a major role in the Colonels’ early success. Sophomore point guard Nick Ruthsatz leads the team in scoring and assists.

 

Colerain’s up-tempo style of play did not work too well in a 48-40 loss to Fairfield last Friday. It was the lowest point total of the season for the Cardinals, who were averaging 66 points coming into the game. Colerain’s leading scorer in that loss was Bryan Porter with 14 points.

CovCath should win this game fairly easily. Colerain is in shambles right now. After looking like world-beaters earlier this year against Ryle, the Cards have lost a key player and are shooting at about a 32% clip from the floor. Their best shot is to use their athleticism and speed to pressure CovCath into lots of turnovers and easy transition buckets. Otherwise, the Colonels in a 10+ point rout.

CCH fares well against pressure.

I am not overlooking Colerain at all. They are extremlely athletic and have 5 energizer bunnies on the court for 32 minutes. Take it to the rim as well as anyone. CovCath better be prepared to rebound and draw some charges. If they don't, going to be a bad 24 hours.

Colerain also goes 9 deep and will press our guards the whole game. We better get some bench points.
