Well if one wants to see this game they should've bought tickets last year. I think the gym only holds a couple hundred people. Holmes rolls in the junior high gym Brossart plays in. And yes I am bitter that I have missed some top match-ups b/c the gym is tiny.

I'm going to predict that the game doesn't sell out.

 

Very few in the SyDome have over the years, and it usually takes NCC, or Pendleton County a few years back to make it happen.

 

Although now in the same conference division, there is no established rivalry with Holmes. Holmes traditionally does not travel well and it is unlikely that they will bring a sizeable student section.

 

I'm voting nice crowd, but not a sell-out.

I know that I was there once in 1975 but I can't for the life of me remember anything about the place. I did go there about 10 years ago to see BB play Silver Grove when SG was undefeated and ended up watching the game on closed circuit tv in a packed overflow room. Anybody remember that?

If you were there in 1975 you were out in the parking lot. The Brossart gym was not built until 1986.

 

That is the event that probably has given us a reputation for turning fans away.

It is also the event that comes up whenever discussions are held about hosting "A" Tournaments, etc..

Silver Grove was 17-0 and appeared poised to win the 2001 10th Region "A" Championship that year. Their roster included the McCarter boys and Jimmy Horstman, all very talented players. The city of Silver Grove and their fans were rabid about their team. After several weather postponements the championship game finally arrived and fans lined up around our building by 5:30pm for the 7pm or 7:30pm game. The gym sold out by 6:10pm and fans were welcomed to watch the game on closed curcuit TV upstairs in Hegenauer Hall.

Sadly for Silver Grove, that Brossart team that was something like 10-7 at the time, had been playing a much tougher schedule, and snuffed out any hope the Grovers had for the trip to Richmond early on. Jon Lloyd and Nick Ziegler, who were nicknamed "The Junkyard Dogs" and Chris Ryan, who was a prolific scorer took care of business and Silver Grove went home 17-1, while Brossart made plans for Richmond.

It was one of the few times in my 30+ year association with Brossart that I really felt bad for an opponent. (Last year's Deming team was another). We had just come out of the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen tournament and being 10th Region Champs the previous year, and winning that "A" region would have been huge for Silver Grove and their fans.

The memories of being turned away and not being able to witness the game have left some deep rooted scars, and we have never hosted a boys "A" tournament on-site since, although I thought we did a superlative job of hosting the tournament last year at Regents Hall - NKU.

Thanks Mustang for refreshing my memory on the details of all of that. I was going crazy trying to remember the McCarter name. Back in '75 I was just a little tike but used to go to all of my neighbor's games when he played for Covington Latin. I remember that they played Brossart because that was the first time I had ever heard of the school, but I just can't remember where the game was played. Do you know where Brossart held their games back then? Latin probably did more serious traveling than just about any team in the 9th Region. It was an education for me to hop in the neighbor's car and head off to places like Gallatin County, St. Francis, etc... Not having a gym, they only hosted a couple of home games at CovCath against St. Rita's. From what I understand, with their new addition to the school they might have a gym, but still haven't heard whether or not it's a place they can host home games. I know that I'm really getting off the Brossart/Holmes game topic. Sorry about that.

Probably at St. Joe, Cold Spring, St. Thomas or possibly the Campbell County Middle School.

Brossart plays well at home and they have some experience to go with some very talented underclassmen. In a year where parity is the key word in the 10th Region Brossart just might be the class of the region. I will go with Brossart by 8, 55-47.
