From the game thread the amount of personal fouls called on Somerset appears to fall into the "most ever" range.

 

What happened? And has Somerset had a lot of personal foul issues this year?

Holy Cross was driving after Somerset punted and the game was in hand. HC still had the starters in and from the start of the drive a personal foul occurred on every play, three on one play! It started to get chippy after HC pulled away but I would say they had maybe 7 to 9 pf's in four minutes. IMO Koz should have pulled the starters and let the youngs play but then again when Somerser being sore losers I send a message and keep scoring! But you can't say enough about the HC kids for not retaliating and just walking back to the huddle, knowing they had one more game left!

I think KHSAA sent a message that nothing close to a late hit or personal would be tolerated in any of the playoff games tonight. As frustrating as the calls were, guess it feels better to have some company in questioning the lopsidedness of some of the calls.

There were 28 penalties in the game, 15 against Somerset. Just like I said in the game thread: There were flags flying from all directions, there was more "laundry" on the field than at the laundromat. I'm very shocked that no one was thrown out of this game, the Refs should have taken better control of this. I was sitting around the Somerset fans and they were not happy with their own players taking "cheapshots" at the Holy Cross players. On back to back plays Somerset was hit with 2 Unsportsmanlike penalties. I think the "can of buttwhip" that was broken out on the Somerset players was not sitting well with them. I'm sure the reality of playing their last game and not making the finals got the better of quite a few young men. Emotions running high for sure.
