A travel tip for all Russell fans making the trip. No matter what your GPS says, do this:

 

-Take I-64 to Winchester

-Exit and follow Hwy. 627 to I-75

-Follow I-75 SOUTH to Richmond

-Use Exit 87 and turn left

-Follow that road into Eastern Kentucky University (probably 1.0-1.5 miles of businesses, restaurants, etc.)

-Turn RIGHT onto Hwy. 52 West

-52 goes all the way to Lancaster. Your GPS might tell you to get off of 52 but DO NOT.

 

-Once you arrive on the square in Lancaster, TURN RIGHT and go to the FIRST LIGHT

-Turn LEFT at that light, drive about a quarter mile and the stadium is on the RIGHT

The reason I say this is that most GPS systems will tell you to get off Hwy. 52 and take another road but that road is curvy and dangerous and there are numerous wrecks, especially at night. And there are always lots of deer and other animals traipsing across the road. It might be a couple miles shorter, but it isn't near as safe.

 

Be careful and we hope to have a mega-crowd from both sides at Dyehouse Stadium on Friday night!

This will be just the second time in school history that Garrard County has hosted a second round playoff game. The only other time was in 1993 when Garrard hosted Campbellsville and won 49-7.

Yes, weaker opponents. There is absolutely no way that Western Hills should have scored 40 points on Garrard at home. I wasn't saying that Russell is a weak opponent, they are just weaker than Garrard this season. Garrard has more speed.

But I do agree with what you said about Western Hills. That game was the end of a whole lot of things (fall break, overtime win over Bourbon previous week, huge early lead) and I think Garrard took their foot off the gas. But KYG, have you noticed it hasn't happened since? I think the coaching staff used that as a huge teaching moment.

Exactly right. I'm sure they drilled in their heads the importance of stepping on the gas, instead of stopping mid-trip for a pit stop, and that's what they did in the Western Hills game (halftime). I agree with your earlier post though, that Garrard needs to step on the gas early, hit a couple big plays with McCoy and Hayes and put Russell in a hole. Guess we'll see tonight, should be a good one!
