This is not SF's first playoff game, they have played in them before.

When was the last time they were in the playoffs? Have they ever won a playoff game?

I may be mistaken but I believe that we played South Floyd years ago. I think that it was their first year of football, not sure. Coach R. Vanderhoof introduced the Raceland "Air Raid" passing attack/offense in that game after decades of power running offenses lke the Wishbone and Power I. Raceland threw the ball something like 50 or more times. Raceland fans went into shock, it seemed like the Rams hadn't thrown the ball a total of 50 times in a 10 year span. :lol:

After week 1 of the playoffs, Pikeville will be the only team left from their district, it should make for a good matchup on week 2 with Raceland. I also believe when Raceland came to SF, they had an incredible kicker that went on for bigger and better things.

Yes, as cerebral assasian said that was Aaron Petry. Aaron, I believe still holds the KY state record with a 58yd field goal. Aaron went on to Ohio State where I belive that he was the leading scorer in the Big 10 his Sr. year. Aaron has had some time with the NFL, Detoit and Cincinnatti and the last I heard is now still working, staying in shape hoping to get another shot in the NFL.

I hope that practice is going well and the Rams will have everyone healthy going in this one.

What schools joined to form South Floyd? I know Wheelwright was one, they used to be in our district when I played. But, I can't remember what other school was consolidated.

 

Yes, Pettrey was the kicker, he was something to watch. He holds the state record for longest field goal (58 yards), but he also holds another record, unless someone has broken it this season, for the highest pass completion percentage (71.3%).

If we are fortunate enough to win this game, we may be at full strength for playoff game 2!

The school has had more success with basketball in the past, with a trip to the sweet 16 and several all a appearances. In recent years, girls volleyball has been the only consistent winning program on the hill. I am pretty sure Petrey kicked a 50+ yarder on their trip to SF, it left a lot of folks standing in awe.

Thanks for the info. Petrey was the best high school kicker I have ever seen, he left me in awe several times. I wish we had another one of those, the value of a good kicker should not be overlooked.

I am concerned about our Rams. I was at practice yesterday and it was told to me that it was the worst week of practice since mid-season. We have some self-centered young guys (one in particular) that needs to grow up and be a team player. Very disappointed.

I am glad to hear the weather forecast is for the rain to end early tomorrow and get up to around 60 degrees. Sounds like perfect football playoff weather. :thumb:
