You haven't tied the loan money to the donations. You've tied people who work at a green-company (more likely to be Democrat) to having made donations to Obama's campaign.

***sigh*** Yes, I did. I also realize that Tesla is not Fisker, who's American production will be around $39K for a hybrid. We're not talking an apples to apples comparison. As well, the money loaned is not being used in Finland, and the US has no manufacturer equipped to produce the Karma. Does that not concern you? That we're NOT up to producing in the US? Fisker hasn't missed any loan payments, so I don't see how this is a crisis....

What also concerns me are the negatives that go hand in hand with electric cars. You act as though $39K is cheep for a car. I can buy a new Impala for around $24,000, a Malibu for around $22000, and even Camaro for around $22,500. I can buy a lot of gas for the left over money, it would take years to offset the extra cost of the car.. Price is too high still for electric cars, it needs to come down considerably for them to be a viable option.

Range is another problem on an all electric, you have a certain number of miles to drive, so you have to pay attention or you're out of luck. If it's a hybrid, get used to paying for premium gas. Also, you better always leave yourself plenty of time to recharge, if you're lucky you can charge in four hours, other models take eight hours.

What happens if you break down far away from a dealer? Yep, trouble.

BUT... there are issues with ANY car you buy, and there are off sets. Sure, the cars you mentioned are less upfront, and you think paying the gas is worth it. Others buy cars based not only on price, but consider fuel economy AND the environmental effect. Like it or not, there is a market there for those cars. With increased competition/production, the costs of the cars will come down. Shoot...they're WAY less expensive than even 5 years ago.

 

What you stated are reasons YOU and others don't consider it a value. But that shouldn't be the reason to deny developments in that area. Given the growing number of Prius' and the like I see in my area, I personally think there's a viable market for that type of car.

Forgot to add, with increased ownership of such vehicles, some of the issues you feel are deterrants will be resolved by technological advances and the increased number of solutions, as in charging stations, etc. It's created a need, and entrepreneurs will step up to find solutions for those needs.
