Covington Catholic 28 Boone County 20

 

In a hard hitting football game played on a somewhat muddy field in Florence, the young Colonels of CovCath defeated the Rebels of Boone County by a score of 28-20.

 

As Coach Conner said to the team after the game, this was a complete team victory. The "O" and "D" lines played great! The LB's hit the Boone players hard and often! The RB's and the Colonels QB gave it their all and the DB's played their hearts out. And I am not forgetting the special team members, they came up huge! This was a total team victory and hopefully keeps the young Colonels hopes alive for the Freshmen Tourney.

 

Note: Ryle beat HHS tonight!

 

Now I know that the Boone County fans will be screaming about the two TD's that were called back on them but the first TD on the opening kickoff and the long TD run both had penalties called, that will be easily seen on the game film.

Outstanding 2nd half by the CovCath "D' as they held an outstanding Boone County offense to no points in the second half.

 

Both teams fans got their money worth, from an outstanding game played by these young outstanding players.

 

BTW #84 is indeed a stud for the Rebels!

Another great game by the CovCath defense.

Penalties hurt both teams, costing Boone 2 TD's and hurting CovCath on both offense and defense.

CovCath moved the ball, but once again penalties or turnovers stopping them.

Wagner(#19) is going to be a good QB, the weight room is going to wonders for him.

I thought CCH was well coached and their QB threw a nice ball. Additionally I thought #30 from CCH was a real player, impressive.

BTW #3O is Alex Wagner and his twin brother Adam Wagner is #19.

 

#30 Alex plays LB and some RB and his brother #19 Adam is the starting QB.

Now who is the big brother of the two? Haven't a clue! :walk:

 

Both young men are great kids, with good heads on their shoulders and I am looking forward to seeing them mature and grow as both students and athletes at CovCath, in the years to come!

I have said for years and years, you can't beat those CovCath moms, they are the indeed THE BEST!

I too thought CCH was well coached. Their misdirection plays had Boone off balance much of the night and they made excellent use of the screen pass on several key plays. I thought Boone County's tackling was less than stellar last night and they let a huge opportunity slip away late in the third quarter when, after punting CCH to the one yard line and holding them three and out, they failed to field the punt and had it roll to their own 36 yard line. That flipped field position in a big way. I said to my wife at the time that could cost them the ball game and I think it ultimately did.

 

Another example, I feel, of the parity among the frosh teams. Seems that anybody can beat anybody else on a given night depending on who plays well and who gets breaks at the right time. Or who makes a big play at the right time. Good game to watch though, and even worth the 3+ hour trip each way when the team you're pulling for loses!

I really like this group of CovCath group of kids.

They just know how to win,which they have done since the 7th grade.

The kids play as a team, there is no supper star among them.

However they are a young group of kids, physically and winter weights will make a difference in the years to come.

Who knows which Ficke and which Wagner those are? I believe they both have twin brothers.
