Garrard County 57 Powell County 27

Featured Replies

After Powell County scored on the opening possession with a long touchdown run, Garrard County romped the rest of the way. Lions led 22-13 at halftime and then absolutely ran all over Powell in the second half, scoring five touchdowns. Powell scored one second half touchdown on the worst fumble call in history (a pass to a Garrard receiver hit the kid in the chest and fell to the ground; Powell's kid came in and picked it up off the ground, took off running, and they counted it!). The last Powell score came on a late pass.

I don't have statistics with me, but the statistician said in the fourth quarter that Garrard's two tailbacks, Markell Hayes and Cory Wilson had combined to rush for over 350 yards. Undoubtedly Garrard County had over 500 yards total offense.

In my opinion Garrard County played to make a statement this week. A lot of talk around town was that Powell might have a team capable of coming to Lancaster and winning. The Garrard kids played with an edge on both sides on the ball and won convincingly. Garrard now moves on to Bourbon County next week for a game that could decide the district championship.

PP, I think we experienced something similar tonight. Heard the lights were out a Boyle for a while? They went out at Garrard with 2 minutes left during the halftime festivities. We had close to a 20 minute delay before getting back to play.

Yep, we had about 2 minutes left until halftime was over and it happened. Probably a twenty minute delay for us as well. They said on the radio that Lafayette experienced the same thing. I guess all three schools are KU customers.

The word at Garrard was that something happened at the power plant/dam at Burgin. I'd say a whole lot of football fields and other businesses were affected for a while tonight.

I didn't get an emergency call from Corning so I am relieved. Whew.

A great win for Coach Mark Scenter and his boys. Better get Hayes all psyched up for Bourbon because Johnny Poynter's running back is a whole different dimension of a player than what they have seen so far. Good Luck to the Lions next week as well.

As far as the lights going out, I was at the Rockcastle/Russell game and the lights flickered in Mt. Vernon at halftime there as well but held on.
