How many official KHSAA state titles does Saint X have?

These are highschool football titles, not parlimentary elections... I'm not really worried about legitamacy. All I know is that as a Manual fan, I say we have two national titles. You can call them mythical if you want, but they're as real as tuesdays to me.

And certainly if Highlands had ever won a "national title," I'd be claiming the same thing as you! But, honestly speaking, the national titles (and pre-1959 KY titles as well) are mythical, in the sense that they are determined, not on the field, but by voting and polls.

I mean, every single time a team goes undefeated, they could probably claim a share of the national title, stating that they were never defeated on the field, and met all their challenges decisively.

Which is a lot like Auburn trying to claim to be the National Champion last year... People should just laugh.

St. X beat someone for those titles. The number 2 or other best team in the state at the time. No one named them they won. Nevertheless it was a Championship game unlike being named something.

jbwill2: But who selected those teams?

Was Saint X the only undefeated team in KY that year??? If they weren't (and I suspect they weren't), then that other undefeated team got the shaft, by not being able to play for the title in the Rotary Bowl (just as Auburn got the shaft last year in the NCAA).

As the BCS shows on a pretty consistent basis, a "playoff" system consisting of one game of no.1 vs. no.2 (keeping in mind that no.1 and no.2 are often determined by sports writers) is not a legitimate playoff system.

Oh well it is what the system was and we cannot change that now. They played and beat who the state put them against.

True, but that doesn't mean we can't describe and call the previous system for what it was: very flawed.

As time changes things change we all know. 13 Titles and gaining on Highlands and Trinity for the most.

If we're counting non-KHSAA sanctioned titles in the totals, then Highlands actually has 19, and not 16. I don't think that Trinity has any pre-1959 titles, given that their football program isn't old enough.

Heck, going by pre-1959 titles, Manual may have the most titles in the state's history.

I have a problem with the assertion that the Rotary Bowl was a state championship game. The Rotary Bowl may have sought to match the best two teams in the state, but it was just picking from the best teams available. Many of the best programs in the state had firm annual commitments in Thanksgiving Day rivalry games. For the Rotary Bowl to be a genuine "best against best" contest, it would have been played after Thanksgiving when all teams were available.
