However, the highlight of senior night was manager Nick Zambos got to dress and play. Not only did he play, he got off several shots and made 2 of them for a total of 4 points. For those who know the Russell team, Nick is very familiar. Nick is one fantastic kid, loyal to this basketball team to the core. You'd never know Nick was any different than any other high school basketball player in the country tonight. Crowd went nuts, chanted his name, and he basked in it. It was everything you could ask for to honor the kid and give him a moment that will last him for many years. I had the pleasure of capturing it all on film, down to the moment when the final horn sounded with some of the student section hoisted him up on their shoulders and carted him off the floor. This is what high school sports should be about.

 

And I'd be remiss if I didn't say how totally classy the Menifee County coaching staff was to let Nick get those shots and make a memory that simply can't be explained adequately with words. Kudos to Coach Swartz, that was first class all the way!:clap:

Sounds like Russell is starting to put things together; and I'm still trying to figure out how Rowan lost to Menifee.

I was there last night to watch my niece on the dance team and decided to stay because there was a tremendous buzz in the gym last night that Nick was gonna play. I have to admit I tried to fight back the tears but it just didn't work. My favorite night as a sports fan. I'd personally like to thank all of those responsible for making it happen. Seeing Kidwell get that emotional was something I won't forget. Great night to be a Red Devil!!!

On very rare occasions, something happens that is so special that everyone involved in it is a better person because of it. Saturday night was one of those occasions. Everyone involved will remember it for a very long time and will be better because they witnessed it. Nick, Coach Kidwell, the players, the Menifee Co players and everyone that just watched and cheered will remember that night for a very long time.
