SANDY HOOK — West Carter notched an important victory over Elliott County on Tuesday night.

It was the first Comets’ win over the Lions since the 2004-05 season and the first in Sandy Hook since January 2003.

The 62nd District foes battled closely until a 25-17 fourth quarter gave the Comets a boost to win, 74-60.

Five Comets scored in double figures, with Kyle Brown leading the way. Brown had 17, Derek Lawson 16, Aaron Rayburn 15, Harrison Bond 13 and Cody Stamper 10.

Lawson chipped in 11 rebounds as well.

This West team can win the region if they play together. Maybe they're not the favorite or even the likely pick, but I like this team. Lawson is the most underrated player in the region IMO. With wins over Rowan and Elliott and a close one against Ashland in the AIT, I think they've worked themselves into contender status.
