Covington Catholic Colonels Varsity Basketball vs. Louisville Ballard Bruins

live from Lexington ky.

Ballards two young Freshmen #3 Kelan Martin and #4 Quentin Snider are impressive and certainly don't play like Frosh.

#23 Senior Devante Parker and Junior #30 Lavonne Holland will give CovCath all they can handle today.

Should be a great game of many today in Lexington @ LexCath

Ballard starts 2 frosh, two sophomores and a senior. How about CovCath in this area? How deep are they? I know the Colonels have a good player in Thelen(sp). Ballard has been spurty this year. If CovCath can control the tempo and avoid an inordinate number of turnovers, I think they have a real shot today. Coach Renner wants the Bruins to play better D---they have been giving up a lot of points.

I think Ballard wins this game due to sheer athleticism and speed. If the Colonels can turn this into a halfcourt game and slow things down they can win but that is not an easy thing to do.

Ballard will give the Colonels all they want. Thankfully, CovCath has a deep enough bench to keep shuffling around to keep their legs fresh. They go 10 deep. This will be paramount if they are to run with the Bruins. If the Colonels can find a way to slow the game down, that too could make a huge difference. UH got a lot of steals on them Monday afternoon and I fear a similar issue here. Protecting the ball and controlling the tempo is everything, but not an easy task of extending their possession time because of Ballard's quickness at forcing turnovers. The BIGS have to dominate at both ends and stay out of foul trouble. My gut's got me worried, but my heart wants to believe that CovCath's solid teamwork can make a show of it. Win or lose, this will be a good test for the Colonels to learn and grow from. Looking at is that way, there can be no bad results, just a demanding call to bring your 'A' game and execute some good basketball. I think that the Colonels are up for the challenge.

If anything this will be a good test for them because when they face Holmes it will be a similar blur.

Excellent point. It couldn't hurt for them to get a dose of this with Ballard to be ready for an unavoidable, inevitable similar dose with the Bulldogs.

Ballard by 12

Ballard is the #1 team in the state & starts 2 frosh & 2 sophs? Wow.
