Just thought all of the Kentucky basketball fans out there would like to know about Warren Coopers passing today. He was 90 years old.:cry:

This is said news!!! I'm proud to say I'm one of his many great nephews. For those of you who did not get the honor to know him he had quite an accomplished basketball career. He was a member of the 1939 Brooksville State Championship team along with two of his brothers. He was named to the all-tournament team at the Sweet 16 in 1939 and 1940. He went on to have a successful career at Morehead State where his jersey is retired. He went into coaching and took Combs Memorial later Dilce Combs to the Sweet 16. He coached many years at Rowan County and had the Rowan County gym named in his honor. He is only one of two men to have played, coached, and refereed in the State Tournament. I always enjoyed the time I got to spend with him and listening to the many stories he had. Kentucky High School basketball has truly lost one of its GREATS!!!!!

I remember him coaching at Rowam Co and had many classes with his daughter Susan. I agree that Ky basketball has truly lost a great one.

Warren Cooper was a a fun guy to be around. I coached against him when we coached at Rowan Co and he refereed a lot of our games. I got to know him well over the years and after he retired from calling games he would ride over to watch our games when Kurt Cundiff was refereed our games. I would see and talk to him every year at the 10th regional tournament and he never missed many Rowan Co or Morehaed University games. He was a true sportsman, loving basketball.
