Turnovers. Belfry has to take care of the football, turnovers have hurt them in the past. Also, eliminating the big play.

 

 

I remember the title game between these two in 2007. Belfry was doing a good job of controlling field position for the most part and then threw an ill advised pass right before halftime that got picked off and returned for a TD. Turnovers will be huge.

I haven't seen Central play so I can't make an accurate prediction but I'm rooting for Belfry.

Is this the most combined losses for a championship game ever?

 

The losses for Central might be very deceiving. The article in the Courier-Journal talks about how Central had a tough schedule to get ready for 3A football.

 

"...Central scheduled six 6-A teams -- Lafayette, Ballard, Male, Manual, St. Xavier and Pleasure Ridge Park -- and Scroggins added a seventh in Seneca, led by future University of Louisville quarterback DaMarcus Smith.

 

The only team in that bunch that Central beat was Lafayette, 25-19 in Lexington.

 

'This was the toughest year for us,' Scroggins said. 'With only eight seniors we had to ask players to remain focused and stay with us. They knew the big picture was 3-A football.'"

Central must be pretty tough to have survived their schedule. I doubt that any other non 6A team has played six 6A opponents. I respect the Pirates, but difficulty of schedule means a lot when it comes down to being prepared to win state. Gotta go with the Jackets. Good luck to both.
