Cut down day still meaningful?

With so many top flight athletes playing football, the decisions to cut players from BB tryouts has to be difficult. What happens if you cut two good players, waiting for FB to end and the FB players get hurt? Do you bring back the BB players? What if the FB players decide not to play BB?

It also impacts soccer player as well. Tough call for the coaches. I think they have a good idea from summer ball and past experience who will make the team.

I think a coach needs to be clear with the players that there are potentially 2 cut days. One this week and one when the fall sports ends.

Over the weekend, I heard that some coaches were using the 'extended tryout' technique while they waited on Soccer and Football to end. Fair or foul?

Not sure why there would be a problem with that? I'm not sure I follow.

Now I know why some coaches have gray hair.

Most coaches know who they want on their varsity and if something crazy happens, they would probably just pull a kid up from JV.

I think its much tougher for the schools that consistently go to football playoffs and even state championship game. If you cut kids early and then the footballers dont come out then you are stuck.
