Nice defensive game by Raiders overall. I continue to be impressed by Daniel Dehner. Kid is in on a lot of tackles. We called his and Mace' number constantly last night in the stat booth. He, Mace, Elliott, and Vollett make up a very solid LB corps. Senvinsky was in on quite a few tackles also. He's really improved his tackling skills this season. Nice kickoff return by Lonkard to start the game for Ryle and give them short field position for the first scoring drive.

 

The passing game continues to struggle and regressed a bit from last week. 0 for 7 last night for 0 passing yards. Hempel was under constant pressure. For as well as the line does run blocking, they don't seem quite as effective pass blocking. I'm surprised Ryle doesn't make more use of the middle of the field to throw. Last week the first pass went down the middle for 40 yards. I'm not sure they tried another one after that. Only one throw to the middle last night and it would have gained some decent yardage, but the TE was hit very hit and couldn't hold on to the ball (really nice effort though).

 

Ultimately, Ryle's running game is strong enough alone to beat everyone in NKY save Highlands. But, as has been proven many times in the past, a "Boone County run-only" offensive attack won't get it done against the Trinity, St. X, or Highlands of the world. Next week marks the halfway point of the regular season, so here's hoping to see some positive progress in the passing area and balance out the offensive attack a bit more.

Until SK shuts down Ryle's big bad running game in 3 weeks!

A closer game than many expected. Turnovers in the first half were too costly for Dixie to overcome as Ryle let 13-0 at the half. Despite the turnovers and some key drops, Dixie had an opportunity late to tie (or take the lead). They started on their own 8 after a 65+ yard punt by Hempel (return guys looked at each other and let it bounce). Dixie drove to around midfield where on 3 and 10, there was a questionable no-call as Cohorn was tackled prior to the ball getting there. On 4th and 10 and under 2 minutes to go, Pike just flipped it up a prayer as 3 Raiders were draped on him, and Elliot caught it and return it about 50-60 yards for a TD.

 

Dixie was able to move the ball up and down the field most of the night. Dixie's coaches have found out that the offense is much more effective when Pike runs the ball. However, he needs to learn to keep that ball high and tight instead of out to the side. Even when Pike got a series off, DeMatteo was effective leading the team down the field. However, no points were scored.

 

Ryle started pounding the ball with Elliot, but then got away from that. Dixie did very well holding them in check. Ryle's passing game was non-existent, which will hurt them in the long run. Also, their kicking game is poor. Dixie blocked a few kicks tonight.

To me, it looked like it went through the hands of the linebacker, and I never saw any of the refs signal a tipped pass. Regardless, if Dixie didn't turn the ball over multiple times, then it might not have come down to that last series.
