University of Kentucky baseball club team

Does anyone know anything about this team?

Usually pretty good. I think they won the national tournament a few years ago.

Are they allowed to play on UK's field?

I thought they played on a local field.

There are two divisions in club ball. UK has been in the lower of the two.

The team name is actually Kentucky Baseball Club. They are considered one of the top 2 or 3 teams in Ky year in and year out. They have a 16,17,18 yo group. They do occasionally play on Uk's field but typically as a participant in tournaments hosting other teams as well/

You're talking about a different team than the one Harlan asked about. He's talking about UK students that play on a club level team.

A lot of ex-CovCath players found their way on to the recent teams. They're usually pretty successful.

Are there tryouts to make this club? Does the school provide a coach? Does the school provide funding for this team?

School provdies between $500 and $1,000. The team raises the rest.

Club sports are fun. My daughter plays club soccer and they travel to other schools to play. I know in her case there is a non-student coach. No tryouts.

Most schools have club teams. For example, here's EKU:

$500-$1000 won't go very far in funding a baseball team, especially one that travels.

It sounds awesome, btw, but I am curious - what if 45 kids wanted to play club baseball? Can't keep 45 kids happy playing time-wise. I guess they just "self-cut" themselves if they're not happy with playing time?

As one that obviously played club baseball at NKU here is how it works: (And I have a few friends that play for UK and have filled me in)

-School can give them any amount of money. $0-$1,000,000 (if they wanted to). I am not sure exactly how much UK funds them but that isn't really a big deal.

-Whatever other money the team needs is raised through fundraisers, donations and team dues. The dues for each player can be low or they can be high.

-The team can hold tryouts.

-I believe UK has two teams. They were originally only D2 (at the club level) but last year they added a D1 team as well.

Games played in Fall or Spring? Did NKU let you use their school field?

You can play fall games as exhibition but the games that really matter are the spring games. And NKU let us use their field when nothing else was scheduled on it.

That was probably back when they were still using Freedom's field though, right? Now that they are using their school field again as their home field, I wonder if they still let the club team play games on it?
