I believe the future is bright for Conner. They are moving to 5A next year, and should be able to make deep runs in the playoffs for the next 3-4 years. They dominated Scott on Friday night. The 5A group will be a perfect fit for them after having their school population take a huge hit when Cooper High School opened. Will be curious to see if they continue to schedule Boone and Ryle.

I think Conner could be a major player in 5A starting next year. Scott could, also, but it would require someone in the administration getting their head out of the sand. Based on this score, I don't see that happening.

As for scheduling Boone and Ryle, those are major bread and butter rivalry games. They've got to keep them on the schedule.

Scott is super young and inexperienced. They rely on a bunch of sophomore's and a couple of freshman. Thats never good at the varsity level especially when playing 6A schools and in one of the toughest 5A districts in the State. Its going to be a tough year. The Eagles will take some lumps this season. This thing will not be fixed overnight but I believe things will be much better in a couple more years.

 

BTW, Conner looked fantastic. I think they may be a little better than what some are predicting. Congrats to the Cougars and best of luck on the rest of the season.

They hired a pretty good head coach, which won't be the first time they've tried that trick. When no immediate results are forthcoming, they'll sweep him out the door, find another miracle worker, and start the sad process all over again. This isn't just a grudge I'm holding, this is 30+ years of futility that I've watched with growing horror. I feel for the coaches and the kids. There is no way that a school of this size should have had one winning record in the past twenty seasons. A record like that can't be from a consistent lack of talent.

I always find it odd that Scott can do well in most other sports but not be competitive in football. I know they have talent walking the halls, so why do they not go out for football?

Dave Campbell is one of the best coaches and men in the business. I hope the Scott administration gives him time to build a program.

Does "open" enrollment hurt the Scott program? Would be curious to see the number of kids in their district, but go elsewhere. If it is hurting Scott, it must be helping someone else, right? Who would that be? SK and/or Dixie?

I had asked my son this question a few years ago when he was playing. He told me he only knew of three guys playing for Dixie at that time who chose to go to Dixie instead of Scott. Open enrollment doesn't seem to be hurting Scott in other sports.

I went over SK's and Dixie's roster the other day to see how many kids that played with my son at Woodland who are now on the other two school's roster. I found 1 on Dixie's roster and none on SK's roster. I don't see a major exodus. I think it just comes down to winning and losing. Once Scott becomes more competitive, you'll see more kids on the sidelines.
