Ashland came away from this one looking like the much better squad tonight. First three quarters were played "standard", including all special teams; with Ashland coming out on top 36-14.

 

Mason County recovered the on-side kickoff and junior RB Josh Harris scored on the first play from scrimmage. After that it was almost all Tomcats. Left-handed QB #2 played a nice game and was able to pick apart the Royals' defense with throws to the flat and the TE; no surprise that as a southpaw much of the Tomcats offense went left. #80 for Ashland may have been the best player on the field tonight; a big target at TE and a force on the D-line as well.

 

Mason has some nice skill players; QB Pawsat had a quick-strike TD early in the 3rd quarter to WR Jordan Gilbert; but the Tomcats were able to outmuscle the Royals for much of the game. Mason County looked smaller at almost every position on the field.

I'm sure Mason County has a very good team again this year and will compete for the 3A state title. Ashland is just very very good this season and for the next few seasons.

Ashland used a defensive scheme that bothered Mason last year against Lewis County, lining the d-ends up wide and speed rushing. I would like to see the Royals let their O-linemen get into a 2-point stance.

Watch out for the CATS!! They must be loaded!

Ashland will by far be Mason County's toughest oppponent until second or third round of the tournament. District is real weak and outside of district schedule is just as weak. I think Coach B knows his teams weaknesses in size on the lines and has sceduled accordingly. When Lofton,Grutza and company were there they played Dunbar,Boone County,etc. I guess Danville is a good team traditionally, but they were way down last year and MC probably could have scored 60 that game last year. Just wish a couple of games stood out on the schedule

. I think you are going to see a much improved Danville team when the Royals visit next friday evening. Maybe the Admirals will keep it close this time.

They didn't show up last year,I left at halftime very dissapointed. I thought with their tradition they just reloaded, looked like they may be a class or two away
