August 7, 201016 yr I don't know how instant replay would help in this situation here. Think about it. There was a runner on second who would have scored had it been ruled a fair ball, obviously. But if they initially call it a foul then the play is dead regaurdless. So even if they could go back and change the call, how would they rule it? Where would the guy on second end up? And where would they put the guy who hit it? You've certainly hit on one of the problems with instant replay.

It's also a dead ball when a ball is touched by a fan down the line and everyone gets two bases from when the play started I think. I would say that is better than leaving it a foul ball. In this Marlins scenario the guy is awarded home and the game is over.
