I am amazed by the amounts of pop culture history I know that people similar to my age (and I have no idea how old your daughter/her boyfriend are) are completely clueless on. I never think I know very much until I interact with others and they're like "Who is Janis Joplin?" It hurts my head. I guess my parents just did a very good job of educating me on useless information as a child.

And I agree about discovering stuff years after the fact -- I've done a lot of that over the years -- but it definitely always feels good to be into something great from Day 1, too.
