Campbell County 3 Ryle 2 (8 innings)

Wow.......

Wasn't at the game, but make no mistake that Campbell is a solid team. This is the second 3-2 walk-off loss the Camels have handed the Raiders this year, so kind of hard to call it a fluke at this point.

Apparently there were only five hits in the entire game, three of them by Ryle (and two of those by James Hoskins). Donovan pitched an outstanding seven innings, allowing only two unearned runs. Wood bat games are a different animal - because there is a lot less hitting, it puts a premium on solid defense, not putting people on base via BB, HBP, and errors, and smart and aggressive baserunning. The Raiders had a couple issues in a few of those areas today. Not a bad loss today, just a loss.

Hoskins continues to hit like a man possessed. Still early in the season, but at this point you can't have any discussion about potential player of the year candidates that doesn't include him. And Kyle Donovan is nothing short of a poster child for how to be a very successful high school pitcher without having a mid-80's fastball. Not to say he doesn't have a decent fastball, but it's not one he can live on and he knows it. So he mixes speeds well, keep the ball low, stays ahead of hitters, doesn't put alot of runners on free, nibbles at corners, and always keeps his composure. All reasons why he is one of the top pitchers in NKY.

Oh so true about the wooden bats and your comments. It was fun to see the game I love being played the way it was meant to be played, as you stated so well.

If the two runs (unearned runs) that were scored by Campell County were hit with a aluminum bat, those runs would have never scored, as the ball would have easily gotten to Carney the Ryle second basemen for the easy out. However with the wooden bat, the ball just rolled slowly in no man land until the Ryle pitcher ran it down and then threw it away over the 1st basemen head!

It was a fun game to watch and the call by the home plate man in blue was indeed the correct call in the bottom of the 8th!

Who pitched in relief for the Raiders?

Honestly don't know, as I wasn't keeping book.

Pitching was solid for both teams. Ryle only had one ball out of the infield against Jenkins, Campbell County's starting pitcher. who left after a pop in his elbow on his last pitch. Teegarden came in cold and gave up a couple of runs, then settled in and pitched well. Don't know about the what if's, wood verses regular bats. Nicely played game over all. A 3-2 game must have some good pitching and defense as well, for both teams.

The kid must of pitched a heck of a game to hold Ryle to 2 runs. They are one of the better hitting teams in NKY.

Is this the call that the Campbell County Coach got thrown out on?

I heard about this call. I was told the batter's foot touched the plate. Is that why he was called out?

Yes and after getting thrown out of the game and leaving the field, he came back onto the field to complain some more. Could, if the men in blue choose to, cost him more than a few games. To his credit after the game, I was told (don't know it for a fact) he apologized to the men in blue for his actions.

BTW whether it was the correct call or not, the home plate umpire immediately made the call and signaled the batter out. From my seat, and I don't have a dog in this fight, it looked to me like the young man indeed stepped on the plate!

I believe the call at the plate was the right call. I wasn't close enough to see. So I have to go with the man in blue. I think which ever team in that situation is going to have a coach tossed.

The wood bat vs regular bat thing. It does slow down the hit ball speed. I agree to a point about the plays you refer to. I as well made a remark to a fellow parent about a few balls hit by the Camels. If that same ball had been hit with the regular bats, they would have gone through and were base hits not ground outs. I believe it equals out. Ryle has a very good team. The Camels aren't a bunch of scrubs either.

Camels #three hitter was out both games yesterday. He would of more than likely hit between 4 and six home runs yesterday and the Camels win both games easy. Doubt it, maybe. Can't say for sure though. :ohbrother: I just went on and did it for you.

Sorry could not help my self. lol

I do enjoy the points of view from you guys though. Man I love baseball.

Are you talking about Rebeholz? I really do not think he would have hit 4 - 6 home runs. Are you saying he would have hit 4 - 6 HRs?

The stepping on the plate rule is one of those that if you assume its the same as MLB(like I did) you would be incorrect. In MLB the entire foot has to be out of the box before the batter is out. In high school, if any part of the foot touches home plate the batter is out regardless if the rest of his foot is in the box.

Was he definitely thrown out? Its my understanding that the umpire if required to report it within 24 hours yet it doesn't show up yet on the state website.
