Nelson County trying to get synthetic turf

Featured Replies

If they build this new field what about the new school? Will it have the same?

From first hand knowledge, the past coaches acted as the grounds crew for the football field. Mark Brown in particular did an outstanding job of not only taking care of the field, but getting booster club members that knew what they were doing to help. It would be a tall task to do this all alone, but the orders need to be coming from someone on the staff who can help get the ball rolling. The field has been in terrible shape the past couple of years. Allof the same traffic that is on there now has been on that field since it was redone in 1996. There are too many bad things going on up there to list. The school and the community deserves better!

Thanks gamechanger couldn't have said it better myself. I know Coach Brown, Spalding and Mason took a major role in making sure the playing surfaces were top notch, what has happened since then I don't know. I do know anyone that has seen these fields over the last several years know that they were know where near as nice as they used to be. You could tell that something had changed and now they just think putting turf in is the answer.

I thought I had heard that the board cancelled the replacing of the bleachers. I haven't heard that in any official capacity but I heard that they postponed it.

I don't think that's the case. The decrepit bleachers are near the top of the priority list, from what I understand.

The project has been shelved for now.

Artificial turf delayed for county field

One can only re-paint the bleachers so many times. I agree that this should be @ the top of the list. This should have been done 10 years ago. Both sides will need to be done. As for the field, it looks like the right paperwork will need to be submitted as Lantz has let this slip through the cracks. It appears that it may be too late to get this done. It seems that they have almost reached the goal, funds wise, to replace the field. Being a former Cardinal, I wish them nothing but the best with all of this.

I was incorrect on my earlier statement regarding the bleachers (obviously), as that is part of the project that will be in place for the 2011-12 school year. This is part of the larger project that will install artificial turf as well as widening the track and installing other amenities so that the field can host track meets.

Construction is to begin Nov. 22.

They also need a new track as if you sit at the start line for the 100m dash, you will notice a small hill leading down the stretch...
