You think Mason is that much ahead of Belfry, Sheldon Clark, & Pike Central?

 

I did not see Mason in person last year so I know very little about them.

 

I don't think I typed that as well as I could have. This is what I meant: I think Mason County is the overwhelming favorite to win their district against Russell, and possible the favorite to win their region.

 

I think they will win their district, and may win it easily. And I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the region as well. I am sure the three schools you mentioned will be formidable opponents, but Mason will be strong this year as well.

I love Russell, but I can tell you, they will not be able to beat Mason County this year. Mason is loaded, simple fact. I could see Russell winning one playoff game, maybe two if things fall right.

Sheldon Clark is a region favorite. IMHO.

Russell is going to be better this year then they were last year. I'm not saying West can't win, but I think it will be harder for them to do so this year then it would have been last year.

Yes, I think they do have such a play maker. He's not a Gross or Clark, but I expect him to be a play maker. I don't think Russell will be competing for a State Championship this year, but I do think they will be better this year then last.

I honestly don't remember his name. He is a transfer from Mayfield, I saw him play some summer basketball this year and was told he was the back up QB at Mayfield last year. He is fast and quick. He's admittedly not very big. But, I think he will make a big impact this football season.

I've heard about him. His name is Googie Hayes.

 

The pros: He comes from a school that played in the 1A state title game last year and Russell clearly has an opening at the QB position.

 

The cons: He is only a sophomore and I've heard people express concern about his size (or lack thereof).

The Gross kid may be the best rb in school history. And he wasn't exactly a giant. Do we have a rb over 5'9"? Unless DeHoff is included in the conversation. Who's to say the new kid can't get carries from the rb position? I heard he threw it better than anyone else hands down but that may not matter much at Russell. At least there's something to talk about.

They play East Carter at home the week before playing at Greenup, but yes, the Greenup game is on a Saturday again. I wish there were more Saturday games. I look forward to seeing Raceland's opener with Boyd County on Saturday in week 1. It seems like the area teams could do this more often. I think one game for each one of the following weekends should be moved to a Saturday.
