Don't all the kids tryout for varsity and then they decide who will be playing varsity/jv?

Well technically its not called "Varsity" and "JV" tryouts but thats what it is. Its called 8th grade through sophomores practice together and Juniors and Seniors practice together. And recently I heard young Cody York has been getting some work in at short stop. He's a very good ball player.

If it's who I'm thinking of, he has a good glove - needs work at the plate.

Thats definately who your thinking of. He wont let a single ball get passed him and he has a very strong arm. He's been working hard this off season to become a better hitter and its paying off. FWIW he's still not the greatest hitter on the team but he wont be the worst either. He's getting better. If worst comes to worst Coach Maxwell will put a DH in for him.

I hear he's looking really good.

His name is actually Luis Leon.

From what I hear Luis is working really hard in camp this year and should make the team. Let's hope so because he is a talent.

Ronnie Winters will be at 2B and from what I understand has become solid at the dish.
