The 34th didn't seed for years but when St. Henry moved into the 34th, they voted to seed and now the 34th seeds.

 

Really a shame that Newport didn't vote to seed and as I said in another thread, I hope it comes back to bite them in the butt!

 

Seeding is the only way to have a quality and fair Regional Tourney for all the teams who move on to the Regional Tourney! Having teams getting in because of the luck of the draw is not only unfair to the teams in that district but to the teams who make it to the Region.

 

We briefly discussed this in another thread. I agree with your sentiments, but again, whether or not they voted to seed this year it still wouldn't matter since they'd still have to use the blind draw to see who gets the 1, 2, and 3 seed since all 3 finished with 1 loss.

I think the KHSAA needs to make every District in the state one or the other for good. I personally think that every District should be a blind draw seeing that the Regional, All "A" Regional, and State tournaments are all blind draws. JMO though :thumb:

If this were to happen though, how is that fair to the other teams who have good regular seasons? It almost puts no importance on the regular season because regardless of whether or not you beat your district foes, it won't mean anything come postseason time.

I agree, I can see why a lot of smaller and mediocre schools would want to blind draw. But I agree, it would not be fair at all. You should reward the teams who have a good season. You should make it to the region tournament on merit not based on luck of the draw.

This would not be comparing apples to apples. A great season for Bellevue or Dayton, would not be the same as for NCC or Highlands. So if Bellevue has a great year, but that doesn't include beating Highlands, NCC, or Newport, how does that factor in?

There are so many arguments on both sides. It will be impossible to list them all here.

 

The state has taken great strides to eliminate three team districts that give a blind draw an automatic berth to the region. I imagine seeding would get the better compatitiomn thru to the region, but it's still fun to see those #3&4 teams go at it in the year they draw each other...

You have to beat those teams if you want to play in the region. Look at Beechwood last year, they made it to the region in the 35th, a district that seeds, by defeating Covington Catholic in the district. They had a great team last year and made it to the region on merit. They are a DIII school just like Bellevue and Dayton.

 

If you really can't beat those teams, then why would you want to play in the region? The competition is going to be just as good if not better.

Regional isn't seeded because those teams have EARNED the right to be there. All teams are either district champs or district runner ups. In a way though, it is seeded because all district champs get "rewarded" with a district runner up.

 

All "A" Regional is almost impossible to seed because everyone hasn't played everyone to come up with a proper seeding format. If they were to seed, it would prevent the smaller schools from playing bigger schools and tournaments because their early season schedule would consist of playing the other teams that qualify for the All "A".

 

The State Tournament isn't seeded because (once again) all teams there have earned the right to be there by winning their region. Obviously, some of those region champs are better than the others but everyone receives the same chance to win a state title through the blind draw.

 

I personally would like to see the state tournament seeded somehow to ensure the two best teams play for the state title, but see Central and West Jessamine last year. I don't think anyone predicted those two would meet in one semi final. That's what makes the sweet 16 so special, in that every team has the same chance at bringing the big trophy home.

If you recall Holmes blew out Dixie in the next round 70 - 42 so it just wasn't Bellevue.
