Walton is the class of the A schools right now. Will their lack of experience against the top competition hurt them in the tourny??

 

It is hard to schedule when you have to play every conference school twice and every district school twice. You have 23 games to schedule you play in two tournaments (that counts as 2 games). Play each conference school twice (12 games), play each district school twice (4 games) - the Williamstown games count for both conference and district. That's 18 games. So that gives you 5 games to schedule. Next year I believe they are locked in to North Oldham at home and Highlands at Highlands. With the class A tournament counting 1 tournament, you really only have one tournament to schedule. Hopefully, next year they can schedule a good holiday tournament and use the 3 remaining games to schedule some top programs. Other teams in the conference have more flexibility because of double dipping conference/district games. So the 31st district teams have 6 additional games they can schedule and Trimble, because they only play 1 game per district opponent has 3 additional games they can schedule. For both Walton and Williamstown going to 1 game vs conference schools would free up a lot of scheduling opportunities.

If I was at Walton I would be getting out of those obligations. If Walton truely wants to compete for 8th region titles over the next several years then they need to beef up their schedule. The top teams in the 8th all play MUCH tougher schedules.

 

I dont see how playing in the conference will help walton reach their "higher" goals....

They play in the North Central Kentucky Conference by choice. If they want to drop out of the conference, it affects other sports programs as well, not just girls basketball. If they dropped out, then they can pick up Boone, Ryle and some other strong Northern Kentucky programs.

The whole conference set-up needs to be revamped. Playing each school once is enough and that would free-up the schedule to play other schools of tougher competition.

The conference play is actually pretty challenging, WV has not won it for a while so I am sure they would like to accomplish that before they decide to not to participate.

To clarify, Walton Verona could "toughen" their schedule by picking up some strong northern Kentucky teams. I am pretty sure Boone and Ryle are not interested in a conference for the small schools.

If you look at the history of our conference, the conference has had several schools that make some noise in the post season in several different sports. You can't pick and choose what years you want to be in the conference and what years you may want to be out. They choose to be a part of the NCKC.

The schools choose to play each other twice for a total of 12 games. Each of the 7 schools think this is the best way to determine a champion. I agree that it does tie up the schedule for teams such as Walton Verona and Williamstown, teams that play 2 district seed games against each district opponent as well.

I am not sure where they keep this info..I do know that Carroll County has won it the last 2 years. Other than that I have no idea.

 

This looks to be WV's year to win it though.
