New tax on Banks?

So is Fox stupid or hoping the public is stupid?

A couple of points of clarification:

The tax would be levied on ALL of the banks with $50B or more in consolidated assets. It doesn't matter if they received TARP funds.

The tax is paid regardless of whether you have repaid your TARP money or not.

Were there banks that received TARP funds that are under $50B?

You're NOT understanding.

The tax seems punitive.

My point is that the bankers have zero perspective on public perception.

Okay... thanks... I do understand now.

No question that bankers have a serious PR issue. Even so, the president's tax is assinine in light of concurrent demands that banks be more liberal in their lending policies. Demanding a 15% tax while at the same time demanding that banks lend more money is mathematically and logically flawed.

A money grab, plain and simple.

How are TARP recipient bankers any different from congressmen?

Their pay and benefits go up or remain steady while most customers/taxpayers incomes and benefits are taking a hit right now.

It's easy for some to get upset with perceived fat cat bankers but how can we possibly overlook the fat cats in DC that vote themselves raises, premium insurance plans and retirement benefits WITH OUR MONEY???

How much more comical is it for those same fat cat politicians to point at the fat cat bankers as the bad guys. It's all hocus pocus. Don't look at what this hand is doing... look at that hand.

It would be really funny if it weren't so sad and ultimately destructive.

Demanding a 15% tax.

It is not a 15% tax.
