Worst UK memories

Featured Replies

Here is mine. My first memories started around 1989.

1.) BCG Era - talent level was there, lost to a teams they had no business losing to

2.) Jamal Mashburn not coming back for one more year. (1993 - As a kid I couldn't understand this, but of course I know how it is now)

3.) Losing to Marquette NCAA Touney (1994 - I was playing AAU ball 6th grade).

4.) Derek Anderson tearing his ACL (if UK had him they win the NCAA Tourney 1997)

5.) NCAA Tourney - Tubby losing to UAB (2004?) / Michigan St. (2005 with Sparks shot)

Those are some good bad ones.

You know the funny thing about losing to Marquette is that UK fanatics have somewhat forgiven that Tubby loss because we have all learned that we were facing one of the great players in the NBA. Dwayne Wade was not that well known at the time.

To an extent, you're right. But what irked me the most was Marquis Estill calling out Robert Jackson. He said he had no idea who the Marquette big man (Jackson) was, and Jackson lit him up.

The Christian Lattener shot... Nothing even comes close..

I for some reason would put this in my best memories because UK battled even though they were undermanned. This helped put them on top again.

There are quite a few Vanderbilt games on my list.

Might as well include the past 2 seasons minus any matchup against Tennessee. Once again, the Vandy games stick out as some of the worst.

The '92 game is one of the classics. I went into shock, so the actual memory isn't one of my worst.

Last year, Edgar Sosa hitting that deep 3 is one of my worst memories. I knew Sosa was going to pull it from way out & it drove me nuts.

My worst UK memory has to be the trip to Atlanta 2 years ago to the SEC tournament when the tornado hit. We stopped in Atlanta on our way home from a cruise in Jacksonville. Tournament game was delayed when the storm hit, the game was moved to Ga Tech on the following day without any fans, and we drove through even worse storms. That night we wandered around Atlanta right after one tornado swept through the city and another one was on the way. The hotels were all sold out and many of them suffered extensive damage, making the place uninhabitable. Crazy stuff looking back on it. Had it not been for the UK Alumni Association's bourbon at the tailgate I may have been scared. :D

UK lost to UAB in the 1981 NCAA tournament and to Middle Tennessee in the 1982 NCAA tournament.

Bad memories.

I concur. Surprised more mention hasn't been made of these two Bad NCAA tournament losses. Kentucky was highly ranked entering both tournaments if my memory serves.

About the only bad memory that hasn't been mentioned, is the 88 NCAA tournament loss to Villanova in the Sweet 16. Kentucky was favored and very good, and I hated Villanova. Chapman's last game at UK, and the loss kind of felt like it was the end of an era (which it certainly turned out to be in many ways). A bad night that turned into a long summer.
