Good win for GRC. Representing the 10th region well tonight. 21 and 20 is quite a night for Mr. Zollo.[/QUOTE]

Here is what Coach had to say about his game last night:

“Vinny dominated the game from start to finish,” Clark coach Scott Humphrey said. “To be honest, that was his best game he’s played since he’s been here. It’s starting to become a reoccurring theme that we’re saying that after every game. He just continues to improve.

Stenzel followed with 21 points and scored nine of those in the first half. Jaylen Daniel rounded out three players in double figures with 14 points.

King of the Bluegrass - day two

Vinny-Zollo1209-793304.jpgAnother big day at Fairdale with really good competition, some individual standouts and in the end the defending Kentucky state champion going down.

Here's a look back at the day that was at the King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic.

  • The biggest impression of the night came from the Clark County team that decked Lee (Ala.) 74-56. The Cardinals are the best Kentucky team I have seen this season and on this night they were led by the early frontrunner for most improved player in the state - Vinny Zollo (photo). The former Kentucky commitment said he's right at 6 feet 9 and he's really changed his body style. He's stronger, leaner, more agile and just much improved from his play during his sophomore season of high school. Zollo had 18 rebounds in a game against Male last weekend and finished with 21 points, 20 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots the win over the atheltic Lee team. I was really impressed with Zollo's skills and hit ability to step out and knock down the outside shot (he was 2-3 from three-point range) and the number of times he went to the floor after a loose ball.
  • The other junior star on the Clark County team is 6-foot-4 guard Robbie Stenzel, who had an off night shooting (5-for-13) but was still solid with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists. He's just solid in every facet of the game and only gets better.
  • Clark County coach Scott Humphrey still has plenty of other weapons. Travis Purvis - a 6-foot-7 junior - had nine points and nine rebounds and is getting stronger and better after sitting out with a knee injury. Junior guard Jaylen Daniel has the size (6-foot-6) and athelticism to be a big-time performer and 6-5 Corey Rogers is a banger in the middle. Daniel had the dunk of the night - and likely the tournament - taking one down the right side of the lane and flushing it over Josh Langford.

Thanks mhighfield. We would love to win it all, but the competition in the lower bracket is stacked. Will be a tuff game tonight against the Memphis Central team. But playing such strong competition will only make the Cards stronger come post season.

Clark Co was impressive in this game.

They got in a funk for a while in the third quarter and let Lee's pressure get to them but they kicked it back in to high gear after Lee closed to within 3.

The Cards sat in a 2-3 zone the whole second half which really hurt Lee as they simply couldn't use their athleticism to get to the rim. Lee was a very athletic team but not disciplined at all. Offensively, they looked like 5 guys out there playing street ball. A lot of one on one play.

My two plays of the game?

First, Josh Langford came down and absolutely hammered one down with one hand over Zollo.

Not even two minutes later, Jaylen Daniel came down and threw one down hard with one hand over Langford, while also getting the foul.

Congrats to Coach Humphrey and the Cards, keep rolling!
