Seems like year in and year out Gallatin is, if not the best, one of the best class A teams in the 8th. Half of the time they are one of the best teams in the whole 8th region. I may be wrong. What program do you think has been the most successful and why?

Hands down Gallatin. Class "A" state runner-up. Nobody even comes close.

Gallatin has to be the best Class A program in the 8th the last 10 years. They have won the Class A 3 times this decade, and have won more district titles than any other Class A teams in the 8th the last 10 years. Gallatin has to be considered the best. IMO.

That was in 1999, so I am not sure if that win counts as being in this decade. But you are right. if I remember correctly they had the chance to win that game as well.

They are also 16-7 in the Regionals with only one first round loss in 2002 to a very good Williamstown team. And from 1997-1999 they were finalist, semifinalist, and champion.

Coach Jon Jones is the major factor in all of this. He is one of the best coaches in the state that nobody's heard of:sssh: . When he finally decides to hang it up at GC, he will be sorely missed. Before he put his stamp on the program, Gallatin was more often than not, considered a non factor at any level. Under his guidance, Gallatin has four 31st District Titles( 99,06,07,08), 8th Region runner up in 2008, 8th Region Semifinalist in 2007, four All "A" 8th Region titles( 99,06,07,08), All "A" State runner up in 1999, All "A" State Quarter finalist in 2007 and 2008, several NCKC Conference Titles. Year in and year out, he gets more out of kids than any coach in the 8th Region.

Im pretty sure they were runners up in Class A state in 2006. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I know they lost to Brossart who went on to win it. It may have been semifinals though. To be a young adult my memory is slipping fast. In the 2000s though I think it is without question Gallatin County. Jones has really brought that team to the top tier of the 8th and they are contenders each and every year. I hate saying that as a Henry County fan but theres just no other "A" program that has done what GC has done the past decade.

Well I was corrected before I could even post :thumb:. Its definitely GC.

Over the past decade, there is no question the best All-A team in the 8th has been Gallatin. Objectively, you just can't argue with the results.

 

Gallatin is also the only "A" team in the 8th to come within a whisker of winning the "full" 8th region tournament over the last decade when a couple of years ago they had the title game against Shelby and blinked in the final minute...

 

When you look at the coaches who have succeeded year after year after year after year in the 8th over the past two decades, Jon Jones' name is right up there alongside Gary Forrest (retired Oldham coach) and Glenn Drury (Anderson County). Perhaps not surprisingly, those are the three coaches over the past two decades who have stayed the longest at their respective schools (Forrest and Drury each over 20 years at their school; Jones is in his 16th year at GC).

Jones does an incredible job of maxxing out his talent pool...

 

Expect Gallatin to contend for the all-A again this year once they get healthy...and perhaps more.
