In re: to Trevor Wellbrock...

I haven't seen CovCath play this season, but from watching/playing with Trevor over the past few years, his biggest problem is that he settles for jumpshots too much. I assume that he is primarily concentrating on scoring down low, and dominating as an (expected)result. For those who have seen the Colonels- is this assumption correct?

Wellbrock was a force in the paint. I didnt see him take a jumpshot in the game. Granted I may have missed one, but he was working down low to score off the backboard. He had a nice reverse lay up. The kid looks good and strong. Passionate player.

Wellbrock was very impressive. Most impressive on the floor for CovCath.

IMO, the most overall impressive player on the floor was Tyler Hodges. 20 pts, and multiple rebounds and blocked shots. Conner has been waiting on this young man to have this kind of game and he did it against Wellbrock, who is solid defensively.

The reason I say he was most impressive, because he sat most of the 3rd quarter with 3 fouls and because of a bad coaching decision in my opinion. Also, he has to compete with Clay Robinson down low, who is a very solid post player. Wellbrock doesnt have to contend with another strong post player as Hodges does.

For those of you who say "what about Thelen?"... He is a nice player. But, he is more of a combo player, than he is a post man, and his defense is lacking at times.

Watch out or the 6'8" Hodges if he continues to play like this.

He has to compete with his own teammate? Must be rough in Hebron.

PP - you could not be more incorrect on your "combo player" tag for Thelen. While he can occasionally hit an outside shot, he's an inside player . Its where all of his success comes.

Amen to that! And, I think he is finely realizing that as well as he is not shooting from the outside as often either.

You obviously took that wrong...

What you should have taken it as is that Conner has two nice post players that can both work under the basket. Having 2 guys on the team like that can make it harder for one block or the other to score. Granted, Hodges can slide out and knock down the jumper, but the coach seems to want him to play a solid post. He's done well.

Wellbrock doesnt have much competition under the basket as Thelen constantly drifts out to 10-12 feet .

If you watched the game, Thelen was constantly drifting out and looking for the jumper. If he doesnt get the immediate pass down low he moves out. Where as Wellbrock works for positioning.

So then you admit that Thelen atleast thinks he is a combo player that can slide out.... Thelen can knock down the jumper. No knocks on the kid, he's a good player. He just seems to prefer to work from the outside (and by that I mean 10-12 feet), unless he receives an immediate pass down low.

I am not the one who said Jake is not a combo player. However, I do not think he is one who should be out there shooting that jumper, and it seems to me that he has realized that this year and is not out there jacking it up. It seems like he has been under the basket much more consistently this year as to years past. I think that is one of the reasons why he has had the success he, and the team, have had this year.
