Remember, this is for charity.....not about those of us in attendance!

This is about selling tickets and drawing a crwod to an entertaining event. Making (maximum) money for charity is the by-product of a successful event.

 

As thebadguy stated, Mason County and Scott (two 10th Region powers) playing back-to-back would have been an attraction to some casual area basketball fans. Putting the celebrity game between them killed off any existing interest in watching the two games.

 

Mike Listerman started this event 8 years ago for all of the right reasons. It grew from CovCath to the Cintas Center where it bloomed, but eventually became too costly. It survived at Regents Hall and last year at the BOKC had a gem of a feature game that carried the event. There were a lot of excuses for this year's turndown. Matchups, Bengals, UC/XU, Costs of attending the games/concessions at BOKC. With that all being said, Why shoot yourself in the foot and further deteriorate your product with an inane Celebrity game and the JR Bengal Cheerleaders?????

 

I'm sure Bob Griffin wasn't happy seeing where his money went when introduced to the 300 in attendance. The number is close. I did due dilligence and counted the house.

Celebrity game has to go. No one buys a ticket to see the celebrity game. You could still have the middle school games at halftime as that is no different than what a lot of teams already do at home games.

 

For this event to be successful they need better match ups and that one true marquee matchup. Good matchups will bring in the casual basketball fan.

 

Even teams that traditionally travel well did not have huge following. CovCath Crazies while having their typical fun were nowhere near their usual numbers.

Oscar won a gold medal in Rome with Jerry West, was elected into the FIBA Hall of Fame with Pete Newell, won an NBA title with Kareem but now that he has balled with Ed Hartman his career is complete.

I don't know what the price of a student ticket was, but I'd imagine there aren't many high school kids who are looking to pay $8 - $10 for a ticket, plus parking. On a Sunday, when the Bengals play the Vikings & Xavier plays UC.

$5.00! Thats really not much to pay to see a single game much less the three I saw. $2.00 for parking, again thats not really a bad price.

 

Now if you want to have a soft drink or a sandwich....that is another story!

 

As I said earlier, the price isn't what I think kept the fans away but the match ups and the Bengals playing the Vikings!
