Didn't say the YMCA did. You said FYFL so I address the FYFL.

 

 

I was speaking on when you said FYFL is built around winning and not teaching.

I'm not sure what problems Frankfort faces or has to deal with. And many say that a good varsity program starts at the youth level, I'm not sure that there is a formula or blueprint for a youth league that has to be followed. You will get many opinions about how to structure a youth league, and many of them are from successful programs, and they all do it differently.

 

I can only speak of my area of the state, and I have quite a bit of knowledge about the youth leagues in my area. In North-Eastern Kentucky, there are three very successful varsity programs, successful year in and year out for the most part: Russell, Raceland, and Ashland. All three have good varsity programs, and all three have great Junior Football Leagues, but all three run their youth program differently, but all three get good numbers out and that carries on to the varsity level.

 

Raceland has one team for each of the following grade levels: 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade. They also have flag football for kindergarten, 1st grade, and 4 year olds. The flag teams play intramural, because it has become hard to find other flag teams of the same age. The 2nd - 6th grades play other schools. Raceland plays quite a few games for a youth league, some teams play 16 games. It's better for experience, and the kids would rather play then practice. Junior high at Raceland is ran by the school and not by the JFL, and plays in a conference with other surronding schools.

 

Russell plays all intramural. For the most part all age groups are on one team, with the younger players playing in a "B" game, and the older kids playing "A" games. 6th, 7th, and 8th on one team, and 3rd, 4th, and 5th one on team. Two age groups. I think they still have a flag league with 1st and 2nd grade. Junior high is in the JFL.

 

Ashland used to be in a league with Raceland, but now plays intramural. I believe they separate, K-2 in flag, 3rd and 4th on one team, and 5th and 6th on one team. I also believe 3rd and 4th play on a reduced field, and 5th and 6th grade play on a full size field. The Junior High at Ashland is ran by the school not by the JFL and plays in a conference with Raceland and other surrounding schools.

They already have one. It has just been let go by not sticking to the old by-laws and rules. They need to go back to rules and regulations and get all the coaches and players back to fundamentals.

I would love to get a youth program going. I think it would be neat to start at the bottom and build.
