An open letter to CovCath Coach Wirth

Featured Replies

Coach Wirth,

Congratulation on your first (of many) season(s)!

While the season didn't end as you and everybody wanted, it did find CovCath coming back to where they belong.

I personally want to thank you for bringing back discipline and responsibility to the players and team that (IMO) was lacking in the past few years. I would rather lose with kids on the field that understand how to be men, than to win with boys who don't understand what being a man is all about! Thank you sir!

Next year I look for even more improvement and not from what you might be thinking (W's and L's) but in the young men understanding that at CovCath you play by the rules and follow them to the letter.

To me, W's and L's mean nothing without the boys becoming better men, fathers, husbands, Catholics and leaders of our community one day, as that is truly why you play sports and get a great education, it is their future!

Really looking forward to seeing how some of the younger guys (Frosh/Soph) grow this off season and seeing how the incoming Frosh do.

It will be fun and I am looking forward to it.

Now on to the Blue and White Basketball scrimmage/games this Wednesday with Coach L! Hope to see you there!

I love this letter. Kids are our future. I wish everyone on here would read this. You must have a great coach. Teaching not only the game of football. But teaching on how to be a better person.

You better keep this one! I didn't bold the Catholic word because some of us arn't. But if we all were teachers like your coach. We would be so much better off. Thank you for making this an open letter. It gives me hope.

Thanks Theoldguy, if you could forword this to to a few more coaches this would be a better world.

Well said. And I agree with you, totally.

TOG-this is exactly the sentiment of most (probably all) of the current parents of players. I for one was wishing my son was younger so he had more time to be in this system and around this group of outstanding coaches. Not just for what they are teaching about what happens on the field, but more importantly how they are developing what takes place off the field with these young men.

One of the great things about playing at a school like Cov Cath is the ability to openly discuss morals, integrity, religion, etc. as part of the athletic experience. Unfortunatly in this day of Political Correctness this is very hard to do at a non-private school.
