I just typed a complete recap and the site crashed...lost it all. No time to re-type, but here's some details...

 

Great game between two teams coached by two second-year coaches who have their teams moving in the right directions (Oldham County's Matt Brown and Jtown's Gary Weiter.)

 

Kudos to Jtown for its 7-5 record; the first winning record at Jeffersontown since 1992. Last week's 63-14 playoff win over Bullitt Central was the school's first playoff victory this decade.

 

Oldham County under Matt Brown is now 17-7 (.708) with two district titles and - this year - an appearance in the regional title game. Oldham is 3-1 in playoff games under Brown.

 

The Colonels have now won 6 of their 7 matchups vs. Jtown this decade...

 

Game was close throughout. Unlike the 36-14 drubbing Oldham administered last month, this one was in doubt until the final minute, although Oldham never trailed and the only tie was at 0-0...

 

Tyler Oldham got the first score of the game, when he intercepted Jtown's Joey Pierce and ran it back 55 yards for the score with 3:40 to play in the first.

Jake Weigel's third field goal of the game on the first play of the fourth made it 21-7, Oldham. But Jtown's Joey Pierce - 2-13-1 for 41 yards passing in the first three quarters - hit 5 of 8 passes in the final period, including two 8 yard touchdown tosses to Tim Jackson, to bring Jtown back. After Weigel's third FG equalled Oldham's biggest lead at 24-14, Pierce hit Jackson with the second of his two fourth quarter TD passes to make it 24-21 with 1:27 to play.

 

But the onside kick went out of bounds and Oldham got the ball on their own 35. On 3rd & 7, Oldham got 8 yards on a rush by Tyler Oldham, and the Colonels ran out the clock to preserve the win.

 

The Colonels now advance to play John Hardin in Elizabethtown next week in the region finals. It will be Oldham's second appearance in the region final game in the last three years.

Gary Weiter is in his second season. His first Jtown team went 3-7; this year's 7-5 mark was the school's first winning mark since 1992. Very impressive feat at a school that hasn't had much to cheer about on the gridiron in a long time.

Gary was the OC at Manual from 00-07 and the head coach at Atherton from 94-99. As long as he is at J-Town, they will continue to get better.

Gary has done a fantastic job at Jeffersontown and is a class act!
