Williamsburg 2009/2010

Coach Vernon and Coach Robinson are fine young men. Brent has surely picked up a little along the way. Growing up with his dad and brother he has been exposed to basketball his whole life. His wife was a better player than him and I believe her dad was a coach. He can't go to the in laws and escape shop talk. Barton himself told me he was playing so I expect to see him out there. C.J. Jones should be a big help this year also with his length and athletiscm. Daniel Pettit is a big kid who if he wants can play. Cory Fleenor is my favorite with his take no prisoners approach. If they could get Root to play they would be ready to roll. Cameron Smoak is becoming a big kid and if he can stay out of the way of his feet he should give them some valuable minutes.

Pretty sure Root is only playing football and baseball. I've heard him talk about getting stronger and faster in the weight room so doubt you'll see him on the floor.

Taylor is not on the roster this year.

Taylor is back on the team, and is playing better than ever

We can go back and fourth all day about how good Wburg is but I would say 3rd in the district this year from what I've heard WCHS Isn't that great so I think with Steven Taylor and CJ Jones this might be a great team...When do they play Jellico?

Rule 13

They played Jellico tonight on the road and lost by 5. Game was not as close as the score indicated as Williamsburg made a late run off of Jellico missed free throws and a couple of bad decisions late in the game by Jellico players. Clearly Jellico was the better team. Williamsburg really struggles with the press. They have some serious ball handling issues with their guard play. Unless they resolve this issue no way they compete with anyone in the 50th.

Ball handling issues...yes. The coaches need to pay attention to the game and realize which guards are capable and which aren't. You can tell a big difference in the pace of the game depending on who is running the point. W'burg does better if they take their time and run through the series. The run and gun show they might as well forget about...it's sloppy and the coaches need to take control and settle everyone down when that starts.

Too, some defense needs to be played!!! These boys have yet to be taught how to defend the base line. They need to get off their heals and be ready. Just going along side the player sticking your chest into them, is not defense!!!! Most of W'burg's fouls are just that.

Their is a lot of talent on the team, but most the time you wouldn't know it!!! Williamsburg plays Wolf Co. today, we'll see what happens.

Williamsburg has a good team. Shots wasn't falling last night and tempers started to flare. They do not need to start the indivialual play! They are a team it takes a team to win. I really feel thats why you saw such a different team against Pineville....they played together with 3 players scoring in double figures and a few more scoring. Everyone touched the ball and the right decisions were made. I feel it is very important the coaches reinforce this game plan. Without it the Burg will not win the games they surely should.

I personally was impressed with Jellico. They were quick and shot very well.

Jellico has a nice team. Issue with them is their will to get better in practice or so I've heard. Supposedly some of their older more experienced players give little effort in practice. Shame because they could be so much better. Maybe their coach can find the right button to push and they will respond. With kids today who knows. Williamsburg and Jellico is always a heated rivarly game. Great game for both schools. Taylor for williamsburg is the key, if he keeps his head on straight and works wburg can imporve. They have enough players to play certain roles to win some games, that's if the players accept their roles the coaches give them. We will see.

How'd wburg do I heard they won...I need confermation though. I also heard the Jones Kid did great again. That's 3 straight double doubles for him.
