Locks up the number three position. Not many people expected that out of South Laurel this year. Nice job Coach Welch and the Cardinals.

It's hard to imagine that there is a 5A district that SL would be better than 2 teams. Will they have to travel to Harlan for the 1st round?

Probably either Harlan or Letcher. Tough trip either way.

 

I spoke with Coach Chappell, former SL coach last week. He was really bragging on the job that Coach Welch had done this year at South. Losing Bowling and the rest of the talent he lost, moving to a power running attack with kids that have been throwing the ball since middle school, and still making the playoffs. He also said that he was very happy for Larry as he was such a good person as well and knew it would be an uphill battle this year for him.

 

Well done by Coach Welch, his staff and players. I did not think they would make the playoffs this year, and I am proud to say I was wrong. :thumb:
