oldrambler Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Congrats to the Tomcats on the win :thumb:. This one was a good comeback after a loss last week.
inthesuite Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Seems like the Indians had a really tough night, any game details?
Graybeard Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) The game was uglier than the score makes it seem. Ashland’s offense was sluggish in the first half. Montgomery dared us to pass and kept Alber on a short leash. Ashland picked up two short-field scores at the end of the half to go up 14-0 at the break. The Tomcat coaching staff made some adjustments and the offense opened up in the 3rd quarter. Alber ended up with 172 yards on 24 carries and 2-TD’s Sam Hunter went 5-11-0 for 93 yards and 2 passing TD’s (all 3 two point conversions came passing). Sam also had a nice scoot for a TD off of his own fumble (first score of the game). The Tomcat defense was very effective all night. They held Montgomery to 45 yards rushing on 28 carries. The Indians were 7-24-0 for 124 yards passing. The only MC score was a fumble recovery (their own) in the end-zone, late in the 4th quarter against Ashland subs. Trent Hardy (junior, #74) continues to impress - can sure tell when he's out. Since I'm suffering from an empty nest; Trent is my "adopted" Tomcat. Keep up the good work Trent. :thumb: all stats are from The Independent this morning. Edited October 17, 2009 by Graybeard
ryanparker Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Congratulations to Ashland for getting back on track. I think they should roll through their final 2 games, particularly after seeing the gap between Johnson Central and Woodford. Then they'll likely get to host Dixie Heights again in round 1 of the playoffs. I agree with you, Graybeard, about Trent Hardy. He stands out on the field in the games I've seen.
The Cerebral Assassin Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 The Tomcats are back on the right track. Sometimes a loss is a good wakeup call to refocus. I still think when it's all said and done Ashland will be in the regional championship game.

I believe Ashland will have to play at Highlands in the 2nd round since they are going to be the number 2 seed in their district.

If that's the case and Highlands meets the Cats in the 2nd round, then maybe making the regional final will be ALOT tougher!!! Anything can happen though...ask Auburn tonight after losing to the Wildcats out on the plains in Auburn!!!
