Good game to watch. Cooper was down 14-12 at halftime . Beechwood really played well, hats off to them. I dont think Cooper was ready for that passing game. But I bet they will be if they see them in the championship!

Definitely a good game. I don't think Cooper was expecting that kind of a battle. But Cooper's size eventually wore the Tigers down. After Beechwood got up 20-12 in the third quarter, Cooper went on a long game tieing drive. From that point on the wear and tear started to show on the Tigers. QB Tyler Morris was the story for Cooper. Very impressive running the ball and good throwing it as well.

If both teams make it to a rematch, it will be interesting to see the chess match between the coaches. Beechwood coach Steve Chevalier is excellent at game planning, as he showed tonight. If Cooper changes their defensive philosophy and devotes more attention to stopping the pass, it will open up the running game for Beechwood. If Cooper plays it the same way they did tonight, I expect Beechwood to throw the ball even more because there were a lot of open receivers tonight. Even in the last minute when Cooper was playing prevent there were open receivers but Beechwood just could not make the completions. Cooper has more depth, size and firepower but it will be an interesting rematch if both teams win and make it happen.

I was very impressed with Beechwoods passing game. I also think that Cooper's coach Shawn Walsh made excellent adjustments at half time as well. There were two big turnovers that negated each other. On Cooper's opening drive Morris hit the TE wide open down the middle on his way to a 50 yard score but forgot to secure the ball as a Beechwood defender caught him at the 2 or 3 and forced a fumble that went out of the end zone. Then with 10 seconds left in the half Beechwood was looking to score and Jared Blank tipped a pass in the end zone that AJ Collins picked off. Cooper then took a knee to end the half.

Other than the knee at the half, Cooper had 5 possesions, 4 TD drives and the lost fumble at the 2. So the offense moved at will. On defense they pretty much stopped the Beechwood run but in the first half looked very poor against the pass with Beechwoods best player #42 being wide open on several passes. Cooper changed defenses in the second half and moved some personnel around and if the receivers were open, the QB didn't have as much time to throw with pressure coming. Several passes were tipped away that Cooper had been picking off and #42 made several contested catches as well. He is a very nice player.

Tyler Morris returned another KO for a TD. He is simply one of the best freshman in NKY. Very good game by both teams. A rematch certainly would be fun to watch.

I don't think depth played a role in this one as Cooper played basically the same players on both sides of the ball. Their size may have taken over though.

I am saying depth as in number of players to draw from and not as much the numbers going both ways in the game. Cooper had more size on the sideline than Beechwood had starting and that is the depth I am referring to. As well as playing all freshmen versus Beechwood 7th and 8th graders who were on the field. Cooper has some very good talent to build on with good size and speed all around.

Who are some of Beechwood's standouts? Max Nussbaum is probably one. Where are they using him on the field? Just curious.

Nussbaum plays fullback and linebacker and is definitely one of the 2 best players for Beechwood. The other really good player is Gage Erdman who plays RB and either safety or LB on defense, depending on the opponent. The QB is an 8th grader, Mitch Thomas, and he had a very good game against Cooper and is getting better every week. But Erdman and Nussbaum are the two "5 star" players on the team.

If you listen to Gage's dad talk he says that Gage is going to be Beechwood's all time rushing leader. I know that Gage is a great player but that is very big shoes to fill.

Gage is very fast and is very focused, so I am sure he will put in the work he needs to try and make that happen. But he isn't going to have a chance to be the starting RB for Beechwood till his senior year because Cameron Vocke is incredible. Vocke just might set some records in his career. I would not be surprised to see Beechwood move Erdman to QB next year and see if they can groom him in that direction.
