Boys' Golf Region 7 Champions

Featured Replies

Congratulations to Ryle and Covington Catholic who finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the 7th Region tournament today. This is the umpteenth year that Ryle and CovCath will represent the region at State.

Ryle dominated the day with individual finishes of 1st, 2nd, T-3rd, and T-5th - 4 of the 6 scores in the 70's. Senior Jordan Erlewine from Ryle won Medalist honors with an even par 70 -- his 2nd regional medal. Senior Chris Lally from Ryle captured 2nd with a 75. Ryle shot a team total of 302. CovCath finished with a 330, 2 strokes ahead of a young Cooper High School team.

They moved the 7th Region tournament to an easier course this year; however, the winds howled from different directions all day. Scores ended in the high range once again - except for Ryle.

Also, congratulations to the individual qualifiers:

Drew Kinman, Beechwood, 78

Blake Adkins, Dixie Heights, 79

Holden Rea, Gallatin County, 80

"Great" score from Ryle on a windy day. Don't care if it was an easier course still great score today! Can they Contend or Pretend in Bowling Green?

I dont see how these scores could be so high unless there is just some really bad golf out there this year. TWIN OAKS SERIOUSLY?:puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke:

Wow Tiger, I'll bet you would have posted a 65 on such an easy course !!!!

Maybe next year they can get the Regional moved to Valhalla to give the boys a real challenge. GET A LIFE.

So, that's what we thought a week ago. I would've betted the winning team score was 290 or less. But they had the pins in very nasty positions - the pro said he had never seen it setup so hard. Plus, the wind shifted and gusted all day. So, I was shocked that there were only 6 scores below 80 (on a par 70 course no less).

Ryle graduated 2 players last year that now play D-I college golf (Cody Martin - UK, and Andrew Desmarais - Cincinnati). I would say that Jordan Erlewine could contend for the individual title. Jordan finished 17th 3 years ago in Bowling Green and 24th last year. More importantly, he's playing well right now.

I predict Ryle will make the team cut and finished around 8th. 4th would be an exceptional finish for this team.

Oh get a life ha. Good one hahahaha. :thumb: Actually I did play that day and shot a 76 at the Willows.:sssh: So what are you saying, that Twin Oaks is harder?:ohbrother::laugh: I am sure you are right and I am wrong.:idunno:

Your original post makes it sound as if they played World of Sports or Pioneer course. "TWIN OAKS SERIOUSLY :puke:" Twin Oaks, played from the tips and considering the conditions, was a formidable challenge. No need for you to take a shot with comments like "really bad golf out there this year". Just my opinion :thumb:

Twin Oaks is the most wide open course around. How can it not be easy with the bermuda fairways and no sloped greens, with very little trouble anywhere? That course does not deserve to have any tournament held there. Even from the tips an AVG par 4 plays 390. And that is Difficult?:idunno:

I disagree with you. #10 and #11 played very difficult. #10 played into the wind and up-hill - played about 250 yards. #10 green is sloped quite a bit as I saw a putt break 6 feet (from 15 feet). Many pins were on ridges and near the edge of the green. I questioned the legality of some of the pin placements. Several of the par 4's were over 400 yards. Don't forget the wind wasn't consistent in either strength or direction. The course was wet and yielded no roll.

Scores would have been higher but they played the ball up (within a scorecard). Some very good golfers scored very high.

I guess you needed to be there. It definitely surprised me.

I have played that course probably 100 times, and 11 is one of the easier par 4's. If you hit a hybrid over then you have only about 180 in, on a flat fairway and flat green. Plus 10 is easy if you play it right, all you have to do is leave yourself short and make a decent chip if your not on the green u should do no more than 2 putt. One hole ooooo scary.:isurrender:

If its such an easy course with no challenges, then why would you play it 100 times????

Perhaps you should enroll in High School, sounds as though you would be quite the STUD of the golf team.....:notworthy: Are you really going to boast about shooting a 76 at the willows ???

I hear Lexington Christian is the golf team to beat in Bowling green this week.
