South Laurel 2009/2010

What depth does Corbin have? South is loaded with depth especially at guard. I think Corbin lack of depth hurts them this year. They lost a ton of talent and depth in Crawford Crawford and Smith. Corbin, may be the 3rd or 4th best team in the region. South, Knox Central, Corbin and Clay. Clay would be a close second to South if not for Hooker getting hurt.

I would expect Corbin to have a little depth this season as well. Johnson, Manns, Wilson, Stewart, T. Smith, Hopkins, Taylor, Jones, Freeman and Sizemore may all be in the rotation for Coach P before all is said and done. I agree South should be the favorite with St. John, but Corbin, Clay, Bell, North, Harlan Co., Knox and Whitley will all have a big say in who goes to Rupp this season.

Yes, HDE I did not mention Lynn Camp......although I think the Cats will be as good as most of the teams mentioned above...lol

Does anyone know if the Karr kid is at South? If so he will take care of their ballhandling issues.

Who is Karr and where did he come from?

Bubba how about the West kid he is a nice player. I thought he would fit in the equation somewhere.

Indiana by way of Sam Karr. He is Sam Karr's grandson a former coach at Sue Bennett. He played at South as a freshman but moved to Indiana.
The depth at South at guard would be resolved if Karr gets eligible. With the kid from Kansas, Karr Gilbert, Wright, Huff, Clontz, Watkins and Smith they would be full at guard. I don't know if the Mitchell, Skinner or Sanders kid could break into this rotation. They'll get a lot of JV minutes and hopefully be ready when their Juniors to contribute. Coach Wright has a problem all coaches wish they had with this much depth at guard.

Sanders will be in the rotation, he is probably the best ball handler they have, but i've not seen Karr play since the summer after his freshmen season so I cant comment about his ball handling. Alot of the guards you mention will be added depth at the 2 but Sanders is a point and with the way he handles the ball and sees the floor, i'm sure Wright will find good minutes for him.

I would say a JV player this season for him. But stranger things have happened.

I don't think he ever played for South, Someone said; he came to Wright's Basketball Camp, through the summer while visiting family in the area. I could be wrong...

Someone is going to be very upset if he doesn't get a lot of varsity minutes.....

I suppose your speaking about Sanders, and why would you say that?

With Sanders being rated as one of the 5 best freshman in the state, I would think that he would expect to see a lot of varsity action this year. Surely South Laurel does not have that many talented kids in front of him.

Is Karr eligible at South? He could be key to them being clearly the best team in the region. They are close without him but he would make a big differance.

South Laurel returns St. John in the middle and will probably start 4 guards with him in Watkins, Gilbert, Wright and Huff. They apparently have a new kid who transfered in who is a point guard that will push for playing time along with the freshman point guard Sanders. Will the Brashear kid who transferred before his freshman year from Corbin be in the mix for playing time? Do they have anyone else with size that will help St. John out on the inside?

You left out a couple of players — Karr will be starting IMO. South has also installed a few new wrinkles that's going to surprise a lot of people.

Who's to say he isn't going to get the minutes. Sanders kid has been fine and dandy with everything from what I understand.

I'm sure coach Wright knows how to handle those situations. He has won a state championship and I'm sure ole Roscoe Denney knows how to get a kid some playing time too.:thumb:

When St John is out, they may be looking to become "Wrights Runts". Hey, it worked for a guy named Rupp...

Someone earlier in the thread said that he would be a JV player. I have not seen him play since he was playing in a youth league in Corbin years ago, but from what I have heard he should be in the varsity mix this year. Time will tell.
