Rain stoppage of a partially played game

Featured Replies

What happens if a game is called due to rain, but it has partially been played?

This happened a couple of years ago in a LexCath game (vs Bourbon Co. I think) and the game was concluded the next day.

Did it happen somewhere tonight or is this just a hypothetical?

Happened in 2007 when it was Ludlow vs Beechwood and they concluded it the next day.

It might depend on how far apart the two schools are. For instance LCA and Catholic could conclude in the morning with no trouble. Mayfield/Danville might be a more difficult make-up, if you get what I'm saying.

I would say it is the Lexington Catholic vs LCA game....right now lightening delay.

Rule 3-1-4...Games interrupted because of events beyond the control of the responsible administrative authority shall be continued from the point of interruption, unless the teams agree to terminate the game with the existing score, or as otherwise provided for by state association adoption.

It's usually resumed the next day.

In 2007, I believe, Frankfort led Garrard County 38-6 at the half when lightning came. Both sides agreed to end it and 38-6 was considered the final score.

If the game is called tonight, I don't think LexCath would agree to end the game with them behind by 12 towards the end of the 3rd quarter.

And if it happens, this would seem to favor LCA, as their 2-way players will be rested.

Lexington Catholic is behind....I don't look for them to agreed to end it now....they will want to finish the game. Now LCA may want to end it now...:D

If they have played very much of the game at all it seems like it would be hard to play the very next day. When I played I was always pretty sore the next day .

3 years ago Lafayette and Woodford had to delay til later in the week. Woodford had been ahead at the delay, but lost when finished later in the week. Lafayette went undefeated in the regular season, but the lightning delay came back to haunt them as Woodford pounded them in the first round of the playoffs....about 42-21.
