5 Myths About Foreign Health Care

Featured Replies

Looking at the article, it appears to me the writer went in looking for a specific answer and found it.

The last point 'Health Insurance has to be cruel' is not something I have ever heard rumored to be considered a fact or myth. Looks like just a myth about a myth to make a point. That is shoddy journalism to me.

Dude, haven't you heard? Some BGPers actually KNOW Canadians so they know what you referenced is not true.

While I haven't been on here arguing about the health care proposal or nationalized health care, I can tell you that I have 2 former bosses who live and work in Canada. One is an American transplant and the other is a native Canadian. Both have told me that the health care system there is bogged down in red tape and that it takes them weeks to get in to see a doctor. This is not hearsay or rumor, this is straight from the horses mouth (so to speak). They have no reason to lie to me and I trust what they are telling me. I realize that a journalist MUST know more than those actually experiencing it, but I will take their word for it. :D

Um, isn't it the Dem congress' plan moreso than Obama's? That's part of why Ted Kennedy's death was so untimely — he was one of the chief architects of it.

You are right. It is not President Obama's plan, ... but I believe he fully supports it. If it passes, it will up to him to sign it or not. But it is not up to him.

Didn't you KNOW there is no possible way anyone on here can know anyone who is from or who has lived in Canada. They just make this stuff up to support their argument.

Hadn't thought about that. I am a little slow. Guess I was wrong, ... I really couldn't possibly know anyone in Canada. :sssh:

On a serious note we need reform, and the 200+ private insurance programs would be a huge step in that direction and its more cost reofrm than actual system reform.......I think............

I have often half-joked that I'd love a vacation at Our Lady of Peace. Think of it...private room, no visitors, they feed you, and someone has to listen to your rants....and insurance would pay. :D Sounds like a dream vacation to me. :D

OK, as the author of the article put it, just in a different way: Nobody said we have to model it totally after one particular system. Why not use what works best out of the variety of them?

Sure, for something non-emergency, it takes a while in Canada. For a lot of non-emergency stuff here, it can also take a while. It's not like they're making you wait months for a flesh-eating disease, or something of that you might die from.

Sounds to me that in Canada, since it's free, people may be abusing/overusing it for non-emergency stuff.
